Regional Controller - Waste Industry - Waste Pro - SE Florida - West Palm Beach

Waste Pro is seeking an experienced Regional Controller with a strong background in the solid waste, recycling, environmental services, or waste hauling industry to provide financial leadership and strategic business support across multiple operating divisions within the Southeast Florida region.
This is not a traditional accounting role. We are looking for a finance leader who understands the operational side of the waste industry and can partner with leadership to improve profitability, drive performance, support acquisitions, and influence key business decisions.
The ideal candidate has experience managing the financial operations of multiple locations and possesses a deep understanding of route profitability, municipal and franchise agreements, fleet operations, disposal costs, capital planning, pricing strategies, acquisitions, and operational performance metrics unique to the waste industry.

What You'll Do
As the Regional Controller of the SE Florida Region, you will serve as the primary financial business partner to the Regional Vice President, Division Managers, and Corporate Leadership. You will provide financial insight that helps drive operational excellence and improve the overall financial performance of the region.
Responsibilities include:
  • Lead the monthly financial close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, financial statements, and management reporting.
  • Analyze operating performance, profitability, productivity, labor costs, disposal expenses, fleet costs, and key financial metrics across multiple divisions.
  • Partner with operational leadership to improve margins, reduce costs, maximize EBITDA, and identify opportunities for increased profitability.
  • Develop and manage annual operating budgets, capital budgets, and financial forecasts.
  • Monitor financial trends, variances, cash flow, return on investment, and operating performance.
  • Review customer profitability, pricing strategies, franchise fees, municipal contracts, and revenue opportunities.
  • Support capital expenditure planning and fixed asset management.
  • Oversee regional accounting activities, including General Ledger, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Fixed Assets, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, corporate policies, internal controls, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Prepare executive-level financial presentations and performance reporting.
  • Provide financial support for mergers and acquisitions, including due diligence, financial modeling, pro forma development, and post-acquisition integration.
  • Develop financial reporting tools that provide meaningful operational insight.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop regional accounting personnel while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, strengthen internal controls, and enhance operational efficiency.

What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of Controller or Regional Controller experience within the waste, recycling, or environmental services industry.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with operations and executive leadership.

Preferred Industry Experience - Waste industry experience is strongly preferred. Candidates with finance or accounting experience supporting waste, recycling, environmental services, or solid waste operations are highly encouraged to apply.
Travel: Approximately 50% of travel is required throughout Southeast Florida to support multiple Waste Pro divisions within the assigned region. Candidates must be willing and able to travel regularly between regional locations as business needs require. Periodic travel outside the region is also required to attend corporate meetings, leadership conferences, training sessions, and strategic planning meetings.
SE Regional Office Located in West Palm Beach, FL
Our Regional Office is centrally located in West Palm Beach, with easy access to Interstate 95 and Florida's Turnpike, making travel throughout our Southeast Florida region efficient and convenient. While the Regional Office serves as the primary office location, candidates may reside anywhere within the Southeast Florida region, including Palm Beach, Broward, Martin, St. Lucie, or Miami-Dade counties, provided they are able to travel throughout the region as business needs require.

Education and Experience
1. BS, BA or BBA Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration.
2. Minimum 10 years progressive accounting/financial management experience.
3. Minimum of 3 years direct finance/accounting experience within the Waste Industry.
4. Comprehensive knowledge of US GAAP.
5. Ability to manage complex and dynamic situations requiring a well developed sense of strategic and tactical priorities.
6. High degree of autonomy, yet team oriented with ability to work cross-functionally within a matrix organization.
7. Proven analytical, negotiation and implementation skills.
8. Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
9. Applied familiarity with financial/accounting/HRIS software packages/systems (e.g. DSL-Solomon, Dossier, Tower, SAP, Great Plains, PeopleSoft, Ceridian).
10. Familiarity and use of Crystal reporting, FRx report writing, ERP tools.
