MENTAL HEALTH THERAPIST


CHARACTERISTICS OF WORK

The Mental Health Therapist provides direct services to consumers in assigned program according to program requirements and participates in center programs as needed.


EXAMPLES OF RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains documentation as evidence that all duties are completed in accordance with program requirements contained in the Mississippi Department of Mental Health Operational Standards.
  • Maintains proper training, continuing education, qualifications, and other certifications required for this position as written in the Mississippi Department of Mental Health Operational Standards.
  • Represents Region 8 and Region 8 Administration in a positive manner at all times both internally and externally.
  • Always leads by example and is a positive role model for coworkers.
  • Provides a minimum of 5 hours/day of direct face-to-face services to consumers.
  • Provides 24-hour telephone โ€œon-callโ€ crisis intervention referral (as scheduled).
  • Completes intake evaluation interviews with responsibility for seeing that proper routing of consumers and records are performed.
  • Responsible for development and implementation of treatment plans.
  • Provides therapy services to consumers in accordance with treatment plans.
  • Participate in clinical staff meetings, general staff meetings and in-service training.
  • Provides immediate emergency crisis intervention services.
  • Maintains a โ€œConsumer-Orientedโ€ focus in the provision services to Region 8 Consumers.
  • Assists in providing and implementing consultation and education services as directed by the Center Coordinator and/or Clinical Director.
  • Participates in continuing education by attending Workshops, seminars and other professional meetings.
  • Builds and promotes community relationships with referral sites.
  • All other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's Degree in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, or related field.
  • Must possess a professional license (Licensed Professional Counselor, Provisional Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, or Licensed Master Social Worker) or be eligible to earn a DMH credential as a Mental Health Therapist, Intellectual and Developmental, Disabilities Therapist, or Addictions Therapist (as appropriate to the service and population being served).
  • Must maintain a valid Mississippi driverโ€™s license.
  • Must pass a criminal background check
