Job description
What To Expect:
The Process Operator (Assistant Operator), Ferndale Refinery will work independently and with other personnel to maintain and operate equipment and processes in the refinery. Some of the processes involved use hazardous and volatile materials under high temperature and pressure. Typical working conditions include: outside weather and elements, blowing air, heat, noise, vibration and occasionally working from heights and confined spaces. Operators must follow safe work practices including the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). In addition, Operators perform various duties required to keep their assigned processing unit/area operating safely and at specified production/run rates.
The anticipated start date for this position is November 2026.

What You'll Bring - Required:

What Makes You Stand Out - Preferred:
- 1+ years of direct experience working as a process operator in a refinery, chemical plant, power plant, nuclear plant, wastewater treatment plant, or other industrial manufacturing facility
- Completion of an Associate's Degree or higher in Process Technology from an accredited school by date of hire
- Record of formal emergency response training within the last 24 months
Compensation
The starting hourly pay rate for this position is $40.94 per hour, with anticipated increases up to $51.00 per hour within the first year. Pay is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
The Ferndale Refinery is located on Puget Sound in Ferndale, Washington, approximately 20 miles south of the U.S.-Canada border. Facilities include crude distillation, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation and hydrodesulfurization units. It processes a variety crude oils, including Alaskan North Slope, Canadian and other foreign and U.S. shale crudes, primarily delivered via marine vessel and pipeline. Within the refinery is a rail car crude oil receiving facility with a capacity of 30,000 BPD. This offloading facility, owned by Phillips 66 Partners, makes the receipt of additional crude by rail car possible. The refinery produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. Other products include residual fuel oil, which is supplied to the northwest marine bunker fuel market. Most refined products are distributed to customers by pipeline and barge to major markets in the northwestern United States.
