Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled Container Reefer Mechanic and Genset Mechanic to join our team and support the maintenance and repair of refrigerated containers (reefers) and generator sets (gensets) at Gloucester Terminals. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a port, terminal, or intermodal environment, with a strong focus on safety, quality, and timely service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on refrigerated containers (reefer units) and generator sets (gensets).
  • Conduct pre-trip inspections and post-repair testing to ensure units are operating efficiently and to industry standards.
  • Perform electrical and mechanical troubleshooting on reefer units (e.g., Carrier, Thermo King, Daikin, StarCool).
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and service history in accordance with company procedures.
  • Respond to service calls and provide on-site repairs as needed.
  • Comply with safety protocols and regulatory standards at all times.
  • Maintain inventory of tools, parts, and service supplies.
  • Collaborate with operations, dispatch, and logistics teams to prioritize urgent repairs.
  • Interface with terminal staff, shipping lines, and vendors to coordinate repairs and build strong working relationships that ensure efficient service delivery and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (technical training or certifications a plus).
  • 2+ years of experience as a reefer mechanic and/or genset technician preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of refrigeration, diesel engines, and electrical systems.
  • EPA Section 608 Certification preferred (for refrigerant handling).
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and repair manuals.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions and at a busy port terminal.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver’s license; CDL a plus.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) upon job offer.
