Job description

Development Engineering Technician

As a Development Engineering Technician at Redwood Materials, you will have the opportunity to make the world a better place by supporting a wide variety of analytical /metallurgical processes across the Company. Under moderate supervision, a Development Engineering Technician will perform a variety of tasks, including building, monitoring, controlling, and optimizing chemical and metallurgical processes and unit operations in pilot, production, or laboratory environments. This role will aid engineers in starting up and testing new processes and equipment and performing experiments. 

Responsibilities will Include:

  • Desire to be hands-on monitoring and optimizing processes and equipment at the lab-, pilot-, and production-scale.
  • Strong ability to follow technical instructions & standard operating procedures.
  • Skilled in meticulous data collection and observation recording.
  • Demonstrated basic knowledge of math, chemistry and/or computer skills appropriate to the assignment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Proven track record of safety-consciousness and capable of learning applicable EHS standards and proper chemical handling techniques.
  • Capacity to work independently and safely with minimal supervision.

Desired Qualifications:

  • A.S. or B.S. degree in a related field.
  • Ability to operate, troubleshoot, and maintain relevant processing equipment. 
  • Ability and interest in assembling and fabricating process equipment to support operations.
  • Experience with laboratory sample preparation and analysis.
  • Familiarity of OSHA/MSHA rules and regulations and chemical hazards and industrial safety programs.
  • Capability to work in challenging conditions, including exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes for extended periods in full PPE suits and head covers.
  • Knowledge and proper use of safety equipment, such as safety glasses, fitted masks, PAPR, Tyvek suit, safety shoes, and other personal protective equipment when necessary.
  • Physical ability to stand, lift, and carry equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and clean working environment, adhering to company policies and industry standards.
  • Proficient using MS Office, including Excel spreadsheets and Word documentation.
  • Ability to work a shift schedule, with a willingness to be flexible.
  • A passion for sustainability and making the world a better place!

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work hands on the manufacturing environment, including standing and operating equipment.
  • Be able to lift 30lbs.
  • Where proper PPE when necessary.

Working Conditions:

  • Environment: office, machine shop, wet laboratory, chemical plant, outdoor test sites.
  • Essential physical requirements: working hands-on in a production setting.
  • Travel required as needed, less than 10%.
