Communities In Schools (CIS) is seeking a passionate, community-minded Retail Production Associate to join our team at the CIS Thrift Store. Our store plays a vital role in supporting local students and families, with proceeds directly benefiting Communities In Schools of South Central Texas programs and services. This is more than just retail — it’s an opportunity to make a difference every day while working in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.


Job Summary


The Retail Production Associate plays a critical role in supporting the mission of the CIS Thrift Store by transforming donated items into high-quality, sellable merchandise. Working primarily in the backroom/production area, this position directly impacts store sales volume and revenue through efficient processing, quality control, and merchandising support. The Retail Production Associate collaborates closely with Donor Services and Guest Services teams to ensure a steady, organized, and appealing flow of product to the sales floor.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


Production & Processing
  • Sort donated items by category according to established guidelines
  • Inspect items for quality control, ensuring only sellable merchandise reaches the sales floor
  • Price items accurately using company pricing standards
  • Tag and prepare merchandise for display
Product Flow & Productivity
  • Move products efficiently through all production stages: donation intake, sorting, pricing, and sales floor placement
  • Meet or exceed daily and weekly production targets (e.g., racks or carts processed)
  • Maintain a steady workflow to support store inventory needs
Sales Floor Support
  • Assist with stocking, pulling, and rotating merchandise on the sales floor as needed
  • Ensure merchandise is presented in an organized and appealing manner
  • Provide basic guest assistance when working on the sales floor
Team Collaboration
  • Partner with Donor Services and Guest Services Associates to ensure smooth operations
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding production progress and inventory needs
Safety & Organization
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment at all times
  • Follow all safety procedures and operational guidelines

Qualifications

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, production-driven environment
  • Strong attention to detail and quality standards
  • Ability to lift, move, and sort donated goods (may include moderate physical activity)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Team-oriented with a positive, mission-driven attitude
  • Basic customer service skills preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and move items of atleast 20 pounds unassisted
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and sorting activities

  • Previous retail, warehouse, production, or thrift store experience is a plus, but not required

Schedule/Availability

  • Able to work scheduled shifts Tuesday through Saturdays, to include both opening and closing shifts
  • Able to work up to 25 hours per week
