Volunteer Position: Volunteer Interview Team Member

Overview

The American Red Cross is 90% volunteer‑led, and every day we hear from caring community members eager to get involved. Our Volunteer Interview Team plays a key role in welcoming these individuals, learning about their interests, and helping them find the right volunteer opportunity.

This team is made up of a fantastic group of dedicated volunteers, and we are excited to grow our team!

Position Summary

As a Volunteer Interview Team Member, you will help guide prospective volunteers through the first steps of joining the American Red Cross. Using a provided interview script and training, you will learn about each individual’s background and interests, then recommend Red Cross volunteer roles that could be a great match.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct phone interviews using a provided script to understand the applicant’s skills, interests, and availability
  • Offer thoughtful volunteer position recommendations based on training and available opportunities
  • Communicate comfortably with people from diverse backgrounds and communities across Northern California
  • Maintain strong phone etiquette and professionalism
  • Use our online database to record interview notes and track your work
  • Follow established team procedures and processes
  • Work independently from home in a distraction‑free environment
  • Attend a weekly virtual team meeting on Tuesday evenings
  • Commit to at least 3 hours of interviewing per week
  • Choose your own schedule within the commonly offered interview hours (10 AM – 7 PM, weekdays or weekends)

Note: You will not be asked to make cold calls.
