Overview
Carries out prescribed fire plans, fire effects, manual and mechanical hazardous fuels treatments, and smoke and Wildland fire use monitoring. Conducts field surveys to determine the location of hazardous fuel conditions.
Qualifications
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); no exceptions.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
At least one (1) year of experience in a related field which should include experience in some components of Wildland Fire Suppression.
COMPUTER SKILLS
An individual should have knowledge of Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating. Must possess CPR/First Aid Certification or be able to obtain within six months of employment and maintain throughout employment. Prefer a current "Incident Qualification Card" (Red Card) with qualified positions of Basic Faller (FAL3), Firefighter Type 1 (FFT1), and Incident Commander Type 5 (ICT5). Open task book will be considered for FFT1 and ICT5 requirement. Qualifications must be obtained within the first year of employment and maintained during employment.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Must be able to annually pass the Work Capacity Test (Pack Test) at the Arduous Level to meet National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) standards for wildland firefighters (Wildland Fire Qualifications Subsystem Guide 310-1, NWCG, 1993).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and extreme heat. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
