Maintenance Manager
Eugene, Oregon
Scrap Metal Recycling Facility
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Salary: Competitive, based on experience
Job Summary:
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading and improving the company's maintenance program across its Eugene, Klamath Falls, and White City facilities. The position is primarily based in Eugene, with periodic travel to the Southern Oregon locations. The primary focus of this role is to build a proactive, organized, and effective maintenance program that improves equipment reliability, reduces unplanned downtime, and develops the capabilities of the maintenance team.
Responsibilities:
Maintenance & Reliability
• Lead and continuously improve the company's preventive maintenance program across all locations.
• Review existing maintenance schedules and ensure preventive maintenance is completed consistently and on time.
• Improve systems for tracking work orders, repairs, inspections, equipment history, parts, and maintenance costs.
• Prioritize maintenance activities based on safety, operational needs, equipment condition, and business impact.
• Analyze equipment failures and recurring repairs to identify root causes and prevent repeat problems.
• Establish maintenance standards and procedures for inspections, lubrication, servicing, and equipment care.
• Coordinate planned maintenance with operations to minimize downtime.
• Support maintenance and troubleshooting of diesel-powered trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, and other mobile equipment, including engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, brakes, and related components.
• Coordinate preventive maintenance for the company's mobile equipment and fleet, ensuring inspections, servicing, and repairs are completed and documented.
• Assist with equipment replacement, capital planning, and major maintenance projects.
Team Leadership & Development
• Lead, organize, and support maintenance employees by establishing clear priorities, expectations, and accountability.
• Develop employees through hands-on training, coaching, and skill development while promoting a culture of safety, preventive maintenance, and continuous improvement.
Parts, Vendors & Projects
• Improve organization and control of maintenance parts and critical spare inventory.
• Assist with sourcing and purchasing parts, supplies, and outside maintenance services.
• Maintain relationships with equipment manufacturers, vendors, contractors, and service providers.
• Coordinate major repairs, specialized services, and maintenance projects.
Multi-Location Support
• Provide maintenance planning and oversight for the Eugene, Klamath Falls, and White City facilities.
• Work with local management to identify maintenance needs and priorities.
• Travel to Southern Oregon as needed to inspect equipment, troubleshoot issues, support maintenance activities, and train employees.
• Establish consistent maintenance standards and practices across all locations.
Safety
• Promote safe maintenance practices and ensure appropriate procedures, including lockout/tagout, are followed.
• Identify maintenance-related hazards and work with management to address them.
• Ensure required equipment inspections and maintenance are completed and documented.
Requirements:
• Experience in industrial, heavy equipment, or related maintenance.
• Experience leading or coordinating maintenance activities or a maintenance team.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance needs and work effectively with operations.
• Comfortable using computers and maintenance management software.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel between company locations.
Preferred:
• Experience in recycling, scrap metal, manufacturing, construction, or another heavy industrial environment.
• Experience with diesel engines, heavy trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, mobile equipment, balers, hydraulics, electrical systems, welding or fabrication.
• Experience implementing or improving a preventive maintenance program or CMMS.
• Experience developing and training maintenance employees.
• Experience managing maintenance projects, vendors, or budgets.
• Technical degree, trade certification, or equivalent experience.
