Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) seeks to fill the position of Adjunct Faculty - Surgical Technology / Health Science Instructor. This position is located in the Division of Nursing and Allied Health Services. This is a part-time position. This position is open for recruitment.
Adjunct faculty members are responsible for teaching courses as assigned. Adjunct faculty may teach in the evening, weekends, online and dual enrollment courses as needed.
Faculty are expected to support the institution's mission and vision and abide by the Faculty Handbook and college-wide policies. Adjunct faculty report directly to the academic program manager and/or department chair within their respective departments and divisions.
Duties and Responsibilities: This is not necessarily an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, skills, duties, requirements, efforts, or working conditions associated with the job. While this is intended to be an accurate reflection of the current position, management reserves the right to revise the job or to require that other or different tasks be performed in the event circumstances change.
  • Responsibilities may include didactic, skills laboratory, and clinical instruction
  • Instructional faculty must be responsible for directing, evaluating and reporting student progress toward course objectives
  • Instructional faculty must be responsible for periodic review and updating of course material
  • Instructional faculty must pursue ongoing formal training designed to maintain and upgrade professional and instructional capabilities
  • Provide learning experiences in accordance with students' needs and abilities
  • Notify program manager of absence, with course substitution plan in a timely manner
  • Maintain accurate grade and attendance records
  • Submit syllabi, grades, attendance, electronic time sheets, and other reports by established deadlines
  • Discuss with program manager, counselors and other appropriate personnel any student problems which may require special attention
  • Use learning resources to help students learn.
  • Engage in continual professional development activities as it relates to pedagogy, assessment, and faculty area of expertise
  • Meet all scheduled classes within the appropriate timeframe and provide opportunities for student conferences either online, by phone, or face-to-face interactions.
  • Attend annual orientation and assessment meetings
  • Adhere to professional standards of conduct
  • Participate in the faculty evaluation process
  • Assess student learning in accordance with college policy
  • Provides feedback to the program about current department/hospital policies or changes in practice in the field and makes suggestions for program modifications or improvement.
  • Discusses student progress with each student's preceptor(s).

Required Education: Applicants for adjunct in AS-Surgical Technology program must possess a minimum of an associate's degree with plans to pursue a bachelor's degree, bachelor's degree or higher preferred.
Required Experience: Applicants for adjunct instructor for the AS-Surgical Technology program must have at least 2 years in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five years. Previous teaching experience preferred.
Required Licenses or Certifications: Applicant must possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA). Current certification from National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) preferred.
Current American Heart Association, Basic Life Support, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification
Active Membership in the Association of Surgical Technologists
