About this Job
The Recruitment Counselor is a 12-month, unclassified, administrative position reporting to the Director of Recruitment. The Recruitment Counselor supports the mission of LSUS Office of Recruitment and the university's student recruitment program by representing the University on campus and in the community. Reports to the Director of Recruitment & Scholarships and is a full-time, exempt position. This summary is not intended to be a comprehensive or all-inclusive description of duties and responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree.

LSUS values skills, experience and expertise. Candidates who have relevant experience in key job responsibilities are encouraged to apply - a degree is not required if the candidate possesses applicable years of experience.
  • Valid drivers license & the ability to travel (including some nights and weekends)
  • Strong professional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze data, track outcomes, and adjust strategies to achieve enrollment goals.
  • Must be a hard-working, creative, and team-oriented individual with excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Recruiting or sales experience and/or working with young adults
  • Experience working effectively in a collegiate environment & with students
  • Experience within CRM and databases

Physical and Environmental Demands

Physical demand requirements are more than those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree or when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls.
Job Duties and Other Information
Position Duties & Responsibilities:
The Recruitment Counselor will perform all aspects of the customer service duties for the recruitment and enrollment areas, including but not limited to:
  • Provide quality customer service to various populations, including prospective, current, and former students relating to Recruitment, Admissions, Scholarships, and Enrollment functions.
  • Understand and possess the image of positivity and embody the spirit of collaboration.
  • Must be a self-starter, able to strategize, and problem solve
  • Contribute, help organize and participate in all LSUS recruiting events both on and off campus with approval from the Assistant Director of Recruitment and Director of Recruitment.
  • Represent LSU Shreveport on campus and in the community at various events.
  • Recruit prospective students of various populations using traditional and electronic media.
  • Conduct campus visits.
  • Meet recruitment goals set by the Assistant Director of Recruitment and Director of Recruitment.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with area high school counselors, students, and parents.
  • Promote educational opportunities available at LSU Shreveport.
  • Remain educated on all programs offered.
  • Advise prospective students, parents, and high school counselors about general qualifications for university admissions and admissions criteria for academic programs.
  • Represent LSU Shreveport at high school and college fairs in the respective recruiting footprint as directed or assigned by the Assistant Director of Recruitment and Director of Recruitment.
  • Respond to inquiries from high school principals, counselors, parents, former students, and alumni regarding the admissions process and criteria.
  • Login to phones when present in office.
  • Assist with general office operations for recruitment, admissions, scholarships, and enrollment functions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
