Job description

Position Information There is one vacant position, located in the PARKS department, at the Civic Center- 548 South Marietta Pkwy SE, Marietta, GA 30060. This position will be responsible for coordinating, planning, and implementing Special Events, as well as managing facility rentals. Position duties also include marketing and event management; budget management; community outreach; audience building and retention; general upkeep of the facility.

Duties also include to plan, direct, organize and develop the operation of a municipally owned public assembly facilities to include Sales, marketing and event management; Facility maintenance, security and safety; Budget management, revenue generation and performance measurement; Contract administration of specialty contractors for such as food and beverage, and a variety of other event related contractors. Communicate Life Safety Codes as required, regulations and rules governing venues in accordance with county ordinances, center policies and objectives, and industry standards, resulting in a successful operation of facilities. Essential Functions Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.

Coordinates daily work activities: organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; creates and distributes staff schedules; ensures adequate staffing for programs and events; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff; assists with complex/problem situations; provides technical expertise; and trains staff in operational policies and procedures. Plans, implements, and coordinates diversified, specialized recreation and sports programs and for assigned facilities: develops program services and activities; schedules classes, leagues, events and programs; reserves facilities and schedules grounds use; coordinates and supervises instructors, staff, and volunteers; provides information and direction as needed; processes participant registrations; and manages programs in accordance with local, state and federal guidelines. Coordinates facility and grounds use: maintains master calendar; schedules facility rentals; prepares for scheduled events; sets-up meeting rooms; decorates for special events; and maintains related documentation.

Assists in developing and implementing budget for assigned facility, program, or event: monitors expenditures to ensure compliance with approved budget; assists in obtaining and monitoring use of granted funds; maintains inventories of supplies and forms; ensures availability of adequate supplies to complete work activities; prepares and submits purchase orders; and receives/distributes incoming supply shipments. Coordinates and performs public relations for assigned facility, program, or event: provides information and answers questions; develops brochures, flyers, newsletters, calendars, and news releases; promotes facility, program, or event to civic groups, community organization, schools, the public or other individuals and groups; and prepares and makes presentations regarding services and activities offered. Communicates with department administration, County employees, sports associations, the public, and other individuals and organizations as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems; participates in various committees; attends meetings; and provides information and input regarding facility and program activities, services, and needs.

Performs and oversees maintenance of facility to keep the facility serviceable, clean and in safe order for daily operations and to ensure the safety of our staff and customers. Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Parks & Recreation, or related field required; supplemented by three years of experience as a Recreation Coordinator, Programmer or Specialist; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Preferred Qualifications Public assembly facilities management experience, Contract negotiation for goods and professional services experience, Visual and performing arts experience, Graphic design experience, Marketing experience, Sponsorship experience and Supervisory experience Licenses and Certifications Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License Industry certification such as those governed by the International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM) preferred Physical Abilities Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station. Sensory Requirements Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
