Job description

THE POSITION The City of Carson is now accepting applications for Recreation Assistant II positions: This recruitment will remain open until vacancies are filled and may close without notice. About the role: Join the City of Carson's Community Services / Recreation / Park Maintenance Department as a Recreation Assistant II and be part of the team that brings our parks to life.

This entry-level opportunity places you at the heart of the community-supporting programs, events, and daily park operations that create safe, welcoming spaces for youth, families, and seniors. In this role, you won't just assist with activities-you will help build connections, foster positive experiences, and directly impact the quality of life in Carson. These positions are part-time/temporary, at-will (FLSA: Non-Exempt) positions that are limited to a maximum of 960 hours per fiscal year. Part-time employees are not typically eligible for benefits; however, they may qualify for health coverage and sick leave accruals subject to applicable federal and state provisions. Job Summary: Under general supervision, lead and supervise recreational programs, free play and special activities for various age groups on a seasonal basis; and to perform related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES (These functions are representative and may not be present in all positions in the class. Management reserves the right to add, modify, change or rescind related duties and work assignments.) Leads free play and team activities for various age groups. Teaches fundamentals of play and sportsmanship in recreational activities on a seasonal basis

Explains, demonstrates and assists in supervising new and original games. Assists in supervising special non-athletic events and programs such as contests, dances, special activity days, various meets and tournaments and special excursions. Assists in administering first aid.

May be assigned duties as a sports official on urgency basis. QUALIFICATIONS A typical way to obtain the requisite qualifications to perform the duties of this class is as follows: Education and/or Experience: Completion of formal education sufficient to assure the ability to read and write at the level required for successful job performance and approximately one (1) year of part-time leadership experience in recreational activities. Knowledge of: Sports, games and groups activities; first aid and safety.

Skill and Ability to: Organize the activities of groups using recreational facilities. Follow oral and written instructions. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

WORKING CONDITIONS Employee accommodations for physical or mental disabilities will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Positions in this class normally: Stand, stoop, reach and bend. Require mobility of arms to reach and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate small objects.

Require to perform work, which involves frequent lifting, pushing and/or pulling of objects, which may be approximately 40 pounds and may occasionally weigh up to 60 pounds.
