How do you become a recipe tester?

To become a recipe tester, you should have strong cooking skills, attention to detail, and the ability to follow and evaluate recipes accurately. Gaining experience through cooking classes, food blogging, or culinary training can be helpful, and some positions may require knowledge of food safety and nutrition. Building a portfolio or submitting samples to food publications or companies can also improve your chances of getting hired.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a recipe tester, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Recipe Tester, you need a strong background in culinary techniques, attention to detail, and the ability to accurately follow and evaluate recipes, often supported by culinary education or professional kitchen experience. Familiarity with kitchen equipment, food safety standards, and digital platforms for documenting results are commonly required. Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills help you provide clear feedback and collaborate with recipe developers. These abilities ensure recipes are reliable, reproducible, and enjoyable for a wide audience.

What is recipe testing?

Recipe testing is the process of preparing and evaluating recipes to ensure they are accurate, reliable, and produce consistent results. Recipe testers follow a recipe exactly as written, noting any issues with instructions, ingredient measurements, timing, and overall taste or texture. The goal is to identify and fix any problems before the recipe is published or shared with others, ensuring a positive cooking experience for home cooks. Recipe testing can be done by professional testers, chefs, or enthusiastic home cooks, and is an essential step in cookbook publishing and food media.

Job description

C# Application Developer - POS & Integrations (on-site) - Plano
Welcome to Ziosk, where we empower restaurants to focus on what matters most: the guest experience!
Have you ever used a tablet to pay at a restaurant? We pioneered the pay-at-the-table concept and we're cooking up a plan to transform the restaurant industry. Our recipe for success has been adapting and growing to exceed the needs of our clients, such as Olive Garden, Texas Roadhouse, Chili's and more - helping them create an experience that keeps guests coming back. Today we have a full menu of solutions, from hardware to software to cloud-based and AI-driven products, all focused on helping them create the best guest experience possible to grow their bottom line.
Our secret sauce? Our people! Every day, they're cooking up bold solutions, making Ziosk the leading pay-at-the-table provider in the industry.
Want a seat at our table? Ziosk is looking for a mid-level C# Application Developer to join our POS & Integrations team. You will build and maintain the software powering real-time payment processing, third-party integrations, and the core POS experience across thousands of restaurant locations nationwide. In this role, you will also leverage AI-assisted development tooling to accelerate coding, debugging, and integration work - helping the team ship faster and more reliably. The successful candidate is self-motivated with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
The Main Course - Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain C# applications powering Ziosk's POS, payments, and loyalty platforms.
  • Build and integrate with third-party APIs including payment processors, loyalty providers, and restaurant management systems.
  • Contribute to core POS interface development, ensuring a seamless payment experience for millions of restaurant guests.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude-Code, LLM-based code assist) as part of daily engineering workflow to accelerate development and reduce repetitive coding tasks.
  • Identify recurring integration patterns and contribute to AI-assisted automation to reduce manual debugging and integration effort.
  • Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, sprint planning, and peer code reviews.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including QA, product, and infrastructure to deliver reliable, scalable software.
  • Share knowledge of application development best practices and AI tooling usage across the engineering team.
What You Bring To The Table - Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • 3-5 years of professional software development experience.
  • Proficiency in C# application development (.NET framework or .NET Core).
  • Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs.
  • Hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, LLM-based workflows) as part of day-to-day engineering work.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development processes and version control (Git).
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
Nice to Have:
  • Experience with Point of Sale (POS) systems, payment processing, or loyalty platform integrations.
  • Familiarity with EMV payments and payment processing workflows.
  • Practical experience building or contributing to AI-driven automation workflows, such as log analysis or task automation.
  • Exposure to embedded or device-side software development.
  • Experience working with restaurant technology or hospitality industry systems.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and automated testing practices.
