Job description

Job Title: Podiatric Medical Office Assistant

Reports to: Office Manager

Job Purpose: To support Great Midwest Foot and Ankle doctors in clinic operations and in delivering patient care both as a receptionist and medical assistant. All work will be completed to the highest standards of customer service and patient care.

Duties:

The position will focus on reception duties and providing the best customer service to our patients. the secondary duties will be as a medical assistant performing clinical, administrative, and other duties side by side with the doctors..

Clinical duties include:

· Coordinating activities of the patient visit to ensure an efficient and personalized experience: checking in, prepping, escorting to exam rooms, preparing exam or treatment rooms, answering questions, providing post-appointment service, monitoring the waiting room, and communicating patient specific needs and requests to the doctor

· Collecting patient information for medical histories and recording vital signs when necessary

· Explaining treatment procedures as needed to patients.

· Preparing patients for examination, assisting the physician during the examination, instructing patients about medication and other instructions, and preparing to administer medications as directed by a podiatrist

· Making castings of feet for custom orthotics

· Measuring for diabetic shoes

· Taking and developing X-rays for podiatrists

· Authorizing and telephoning drug refills as directed by podiatrist

· Removing sutures and changing dressings

· Setting up examining room instruments, supplies and equipment for patient visit

· Ensuring exam rooms are stocked appropriately ready for next patient

· Tracking inventory needs

· Keeping waiting room and examining rooms clean

· Preparing patient for procedures, provides assistance, and documents related data in the patient record

· Disinfecting and sterilizing instruments

· Performing and recording results for various lab tests done at the clinic

· Managing office emergencies.

Administrative duties include:

· Reception and greeting patients

· Answering phones and making phone calls

· Maintaining appointment schedule and managing recalls

· Prepping charts

· Verifying insurances

· Checking patients in and out

· Updating patient files

· Assuring information is complete for billing insurance companies and maintaining records

· Answering inquiries by phone and in person in a helpful, respectful and efficient manner

· Maintaining electronic medical record, including the patient chart. Performs tasks (including linking, uploading, and referrals) in support of patient care

· Collecting, processing, and documenting patient payments

· Closing the office at the end of the business day in accordance with documented policies and procedures

· Ensuring patient confidentiality at all times

Other general duties may include:

· Performing all other related clinical, administrative tasks or special tasks as required

· Providing all services with a customer service lens

· Handling any other duties as assigned.

Company Description

We have five locations and two doctors which require our support team of medical assistants and receptionist to travel to different locations each day of the week with the doctors. We are currently transitioning to a new EMR system so the ideal candidate will have previous EMR experience and possess the willingness and flexibility to learn a new system. We are looking to hire one to two candidates with an anticipated start date in the next one to two weeks. This role will initially focus on the reception duties and then transition to medical assistant duties.
