Job Summary:

The Receiving Associate supports the daily operations of the Thrift Store by receiving, sorting, and preparing donated items for processing and sale. This position ensures donations are handled efficiently, safely, and with care while upholding a positive and Christ-centered customer service experience for all donors. The Receiving Associate works closely with the production and front-of-house teams to maintain an organized and steady flow of merchandise to the sales floor, contributing to the overall mission and success of Northwest Christian Schools Thrift Store.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Greet donors in a friendly and professional manner, providing excellent customer service and representing NWCS Thrift Storeโ€™s mission.
  • Receive and unload incoming donations safely and efficiently from donor vehicles and ensure they are thanked for their donations.
  • Sort, inspect, and categorize donations to determine quality, condition, and appropriate pricing or processing routes.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe receiving area, ensuring clear walkways and proper storage of donations.
  • Follow safe lifting and handling procedures and use equipment (such as carts or dollies) correctly.
  • Assist with backroom organization, including seasonal rotations, overflow storage, and inventory management.
  • Provide carry out service for customers purchasing large items.
  • Prepare items for sales floor by cleaning, hanging, tagging, bagging, and pricing as needed.
  • Keep Supervisor informed of incidents or issues related to the receiving department.
  • Support exterior building safety with snow removal.
  • Attend department, organization and other meetings or training as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Other Details:

  • Compensation: $17.13/hour
  • Schedule: Part time, 20-25 hours/week with Saturday availability required.
  • Benefits: Eligible for tuition discount.
  • Time Off: Paid personal time off for vacation, illness, appointments, and personal needs.
  • Timeline: Position is anticipated to start ASAP. Initial review of applicants will begin on 6/3/2026 and continue until the position is filled.

Minimum Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies:

  • Team player with a spirit of cooperation and willingness to work with others towards goals as set by Production Supervisor and General Manager.
  • Experience in a retail or donation environment.
  • Ability to delegate and organize.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to make decisions and problem solve when issues arise.
  • Must be able to multi-task.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to climb a ladder and stack boxes on shelves.
  • Must be able to stand/walk for entire shift.
