Position Summary:

The Shipping/Receiving and Crate Building Assistant supports the daily operations of the shipping and receiving department, assisting with the construction of crates and other packaging materials for outgoing shipments. This role ensures the efficient processing of incoming and outgoing shipments, aids in maintaining inventory accuracy, and supports the overall logistics operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Shipping Assistance:
    • Assist in preparing products for shipment, including labeling, weighing, and measuring.
    • Help verify and ensure accurate documentation for all shipments, including bills of lading, shipping labels, and customs paperwork.
    • Assist in scheduling pickups with shipping carriers and coordinating shipment times.
    • Assist in loading trucks and trailers as needed.
  2. Receiving Assistance:
    • Help receive, inspect, and verify incoming shipments against purchase orders and packing lists.
    • Assist in recording and reporting any discrepancies or damaged items to the appropriate department.
    • Unload, unpack, and help properly store received goods in designated areas.
    • Assists in delivering incoming materials and products to the appropriate departments and areas in a timely manner.
  3. Crate Building and Packaging Support:
    • Assist in constructing custom crates and pallets according to product specifications and shipping requirements.
    • Help select appropriate packing materials to ensure product protection during transit.
    • Secure items within crates using appropriate tools and materials to prevent damage.
    • Inspect finished crates and packaged items under supervision to ensure they meet quality and safety standards.
  4. Inventory Management Support:
    • Assist in maintaining accurate records of shipping and receiving transactions.
    • Help conduct regular inventory counts and reconcile discrepancies.
    • Aid in managing inventory of shipping supplies such as lumber, nails, screws, packing materials, and shipping labels.
    • Assist in ordering supplies as needed to ensure uninterrupted operations.
  5. Quality Control Assistance:
    • Help inspect shipments for accuracy and completeness.
    • Assist in identifying and correcting any packaging defects or discrepancies before shipping.
    • Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements related to shipping and packaging.
  6. Collaboration:
    • Work closely with production, purchasing, and warehouse teams to coordinate shipping and receiving activities.
    • Communicate with carriers and logistics partners to resolve any shipping issues or delays.
    • Provide support to other warehouse functions as needed.
  7. Safety and Compliance:
    • Follow all safety protocols and procedures when operating tools and machinery.
    • Comply with company policies and regulatory requirements related to shipping, receiving, and packaging.
    • Participate in regular safety training and maintain a clean and organized work area.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in shipping, receiving, crate building, or a similar field is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of shipping and logistics processes is a plus.
  • The ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and shipping instructions is beneficial.
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools used in crate building is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 50 pounds).

Working Conditions:

  • This position requires working in a warehouse environment and outdoors with exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
