What is real time marketing?

Real time marketing is a strategy where brands respond instantly to current events, trends, or customer interactions as they happen. This approach leverages social media, live events, and digital platforms to engage audiences with timely and relevant content. The goal is to create a more personalized and impactful connection with consumers by capitalizing on the momentum of ongoing happenings. Real time marketing often requires agile teams and quick decision-making to ensure responses are appropriate and effective.

What is the difference between Real Time Marketing vs Content Marketing?

AspectReal Time MarketingContent Marketing
FocusImmediate engagement and trending topicsLong-term audience building through valuable content
Work EnvironmentFast-paced, reactive campaignsStrategic, planned content creation
CredentialsMarketing experience, social media skillsMarketing, communications, or journalism background

Real Time Marketing involves quick, reactive campaigns to capitalize on current events, while Content Marketing focuses on creating valuable content over time to build brand loyalty. Both roles require marketing knowledge, but Real Time Marketing emphasizes agility and trend awareness, whereas Content Marketing emphasizes strategy and consistency.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a real time marketing professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Real Time Marketing professional, you need expertise in digital marketing, data analytics, and campaign management, often supported by a marketing degree or related certification. Familiarity with social media management platforms, analytics tools like Google Analytics, and marketing automation systems is crucial. Strong communication, quick decision-making, and creativity set top performers apart in rapidly changing environments. These skills and qualities enable effective, timely engagement with audiences, driving brand relevance and business growth.

How does a real time marketing professional typically collaborate with other teams to execute timely campaigns?

Real Time Marketing professionals work closely with social media, content, data analytics, and creative teams to ensure campaigns are both timely and relevant. They often monitor trends and audience engagement in real time, communicating quickly with designers and copywriters to create rapid-response content. This collaboration is crucial, as the success of real time campaigns depends on swift coordination and the ability to adapt messaging based on live feedback or events. Regular meetings, digital collaboration tools, and clear communication channels are essential parts of the workflow.

Can real time marketing jobs be done remotely?

Real time marketing jobs can often be performed remotely, especially roles focused on digital content creation, social media management, and data analysis. However, some positions may require on-site presence for events, meetings, or collaboration with teams. The feasibility depends on the company's policies and the specific responsibilities of the role.

What You'll Be Doing...
As a Principal MarTech Strategy & Real-Time Expert, you will serve as the critical bridge between marketing business strategy, hands-on technical execution, and next-generation personalization.
In this role, you will be both a technology strategist and a hands-on practitioner. You are comfortable evaluating technology platforms, scaling our MarTech stack, and setting a future-proof vision for AI-driven, agentic 1:1 personalization, while simultaneously rolling up your sleeves to build real-time customer journeys, configure profile schemas, and troubleshoot data flows.
Key Responsibilities...
1. Tech Stack Strategy & Agentic Personalization Vision
  • Stack Evolution & Evaluation: Continually evaluate emerging MarTech tools, platforms, and architectures to build a scalable engine capable of supporting next-gen, agentic 1:1 personalization.
  • AI & Decisioning Integration: Collaborate with Data Science and Engineering teams to integrate AI/ML models into the real-time marketing loop, connecting audience triggers with smart decisioning logic across channels.
  • Strategic Roadmap Development: Translate business strategies into a future-proof MarTech engineering roadmap that balances rapid delivery with long-term platform scalability.

2. Hands-On Real-Time Marketing & Journey Engineering
  • Build & Deploy Journeys: Lead the hands-on technical design, build, and enablement of real-time marketing (RTM) use cases, customer journeys, and behavioral triggers using Adobe Experience Platform (AEP / RTCDP / AJO) or similar real-time marketing engines.
  • Profile & Data Orchestration: Define and maintain schemas, identity namespaces, and profile merge policies to ensure real-time profile orchestration is clean, scalable, and actionable.
  • Operational & Platform Health: Actively monitor dataflow health, ingestion patterns, and technical latency, proactively resolving bottlenecks before they impact real-time customer experiences.

3. Cross-Functional Execution & Pod Leadership
  • Lead Delivery Squads: Lead technical execution pods through iterative Agile delivery cycles, establishing technical standards and maintaining a high standard of execution excellence.
  • Translate Strategy to Execution: Serve as the technical liaison between business strategists, IT, and security teams-translating complex strategic ambitions into clear technical requirements and backlog items.

4. Strategic Storytelling & Analytics
  • Executive Narratives: Own the creation of clear, visual technical narratives and executive-level decks that explain the "how" and "why" behind MarTech architectural decisions.
  • Measurement Frameworks: Define and track key performance indicators across both technical metrics (data latency, system uptime, schema accuracy) and business outcomes (conversion lift, audience activation efficiency).
  • Governance & Standards: Establish best practices for data governance, sandboxing, and platform lifecycle management in partnership with dedicated compliance teams.

Where You'll Be Working...
In this hybrid role, you must reside within a commuting distance to one of the work locations listed on this position, and your work will include work from home and assigned office days set by your manager.
What We're Looking For...
You are a technical strategist with an engineering mindset. You are likely a MarTech engineer or architect who mastered real-time customer journeys and schema architecture, but also possesses a gift for strategic thinking, platform evaluation, and executive communication. You thrive in the hands-on details of build and execution, but never lose sight of the long-term vision for 1:1 agentic personalization.
You'll need to have...
  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant experience
  • Six or more years of MarTech Architecture and Evaluation Experience, including evaluating technology platforms, analyzing technical debt, and designing scalable architectures to support real-time marketing and AI/ML model integration.
  • Experience creating a strategy for how modern AI, machine learning, and agentic automation fit into the future of omni-channel customer experiences.
  • Three or more years of hands-on experience building customer journeys, configuring schemas, managing identity resolution, and activating real-time profiles in Adobe (AEP, RTCDP, AJO) or modern real-time marketing tools.
  • Experience translating dense, complex technical architecture into clean, visually engaging presentations for leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Experience guiding technical pods or cross-functional delivery teams through high-velocity Agile delivery cycles.
  • Six or more years of hands-on engineering experience with AEP/RTCDP with everyday work with XDM schemas, Identity Service, Profile Service, and Destination connectors.

Even better if you also have...
  • Experience with digital analytics, latency optimization, and measuring the ROI of real-time marketing activations.
  • A "Health-First" Mindset: Proven experience in maintaining the stability and performance of large-scale enterprise data platforms.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams to deliver complex, data-driven technology projects.
  • Experience in a CoE model where you set standards for others to follow.
  • Background in large-scale data migrations or platform transformation

In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes working from home and a minimum of three days per week in the office, which will be set by your manager. Employees are responsible for maintaining compliance with hybrid work policies.
