What is a real estate manager?

A real estate manager oversees commercial or residential real estate properties for a company or organization. As a real estate manager, your duties include supervising staff, performing bookkeeping activities, and tracking daily expenses. You may also handle tenant issues and lease compliance. Many real estate managers at smaller companies take on additional roles by performing minor repair and maintenance services on their properties.

What does a real estate manager do?

A Real Estate Manager oversees the operation, maintenance, and leasing of property or real estate portfolios. Their responsibilities include negotiating leases, managing tenant relations, handling maintenance requests, and ensuring properties comply with relevant laws and regulations. They may work for property management companies, real estate firms, or directly for property owners. Real Estate Managers also monitor property budgets, coordinate repairs, and aim to maximize property value and income.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a real estate manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Real Estate Manager, you need expertise in property management, financial analysis, leasing, and a thorough understanding of real estate laws, typically supported by a degree in business or real estate and relevant certification (such as CPM or RPA). Familiarity with property management software, lease management systems, and budgeting tools is essential. Excellent negotiation, problem-solving, and communication skills help you build strong tenant relationships and navigate complex transactions. These skills ensure effective property operations, maximize asset value, and foster client and tenant satisfaction.

What are some common challenges real estate managers face when overseeing multiple properties, and how can they effectively address them?

Real Estate Managers often juggle the demands of multiple properties, which can present challenges such as coordinating maintenance schedules, managing tenant relations, and ensuring regulatory compliance across different locations. Effective time management, strong communication skills, and the use of property management software can help streamline operations. Building a reliable network of vendors and regularly updating procedures also enable managers to proactively address issues and maintain property value.

Job description

Pay: $160,000.00 - $200,000.00 per year

WHY THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY

  • Join a well-established, full-service law firm with nearly a century of legal excellence and a robust commercial real estate practice serving sophisticated clients — investors, developers, sponsors, and franchise operators
  • Handle complex, high-value transactions from start to finish — purchase and sale agreements, commercial leases, acquisitions, dispositions, and corporate finance — with real ownership over your matters
  • Work directly with experienced partners on sophisticated deals while managing your own day-to-day responsibilities and client relationships
  • Origination credit available — your business development efforts are recognized and rewarded, not just tracked
  • Discretionary year-end bonus and merit-based increases on top of a highly competitive base salary
  • Comprehensive benefits: medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, 401(k), paid time off, and access to additional voluntary programs
  • Hybrid flexibility after 90 days — get established with the team and then enjoy a blended work arrangement
  • A collaborative firm culture built on integrity, innovation, and genuine investment in its attorneys' growth and long-term success

Location: Based in our Greenwich, CT office, this role starts on-site and transitions to a hybrid schedule after 90 days — giving you the runway to build strong relationships with the team before enjoying the flexibility of a blended work arrangement. Connecticut bar admission required; NY and/or NJ admission a strong plus.

Note: This role requires 5+ years of experience in commercial real estate and corporate transactions, with hands-on experience handling deals from drafting through closing. Connecticut bar admission is required. Candidates without a commercial real estate transactional background will not be considered.

ABOUT US

We are a well-regarded, full-service law firm with a proud history dating back to 1930 and a practice spanning 30+ areas of law — from commercial real estate and corporate transactions to litigation, estate planning, healthcare, and beyond. Our attorneys represent business owners, investors, developers, and institutional clients across the country, handling sophisticated matters with a client-first approach. We've built a collaborative, forward-thinking culture where attorneys are empowered to grow their practices, deepen client relationships, and do their best work. Confidential Employer.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial real estate agreements including purchase and sale agreements, commercial leases, and related transaction documents
  • Manage commercial real estate acquisitions and dispositions from initial structuring through closing — coordinating with clients, lenders, title companies, and opposing counsel throughout
  • Assist in structuring and negotiating corporate finance transactions including loan documentation and related agreements
  • Represent borrowers and lenders in financing transactions, including those involving franchise businesses
  • Conduct thorough due diligence including title and survey review, and coordinate with all transaction parties to keep deals on track
  • Provide strategic guidance to clients on transactional matters and business objectives
  • Collaborate with partners and senior attorneys on complex matters while independently managing day-to-day responsibilities across your own docket

QUALIFICATIONS

  • J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials
  • Admission to practice in Connecticut required; NY and/or NJ admission a significant plus
  • 5+ years of experience in commercial real estate and corporate transactions in a law firm setting
  • Experience with commercial leasing, acquisitions and dispositions, and financing transactions required
  • Familiarity with franchise-related transactions or franchise finance a plus
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage multiple matters and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and client communication skills
  • Must be based in or willing to commute to the Greenwich, CT area

WHY YOU WILL LOVE WORKING HERE

This is a role for an attorney who wants to do serious commercial real estate work — not spend years waiting for responsibility. You'll be handling sophisticated transactions for high-caliber clients, collaborating with experienced partners, and building a practice with origination credit that actually means something to your compensation. The firm has nearly 100 years of history behind it and a culture that prioritizes collaboration, work-life balance, and professional development. Greenwich is one of the strongest commercial real estate markets in the Northeast, and this is your chance to be at the center of it — at a firm that will invest in your growth.
