Job description

Director of Real Estate Development | Affordable Housing
Richmond, CA (Hybrid) | $175K-$205K
Are you an affordable housing development leader who can take projects from concept to completion?
We're partnering with a mission-driven nonprofit developer seeking a Director of Real Estate Development to lead a growing portfolio of affordable housing projects throughout Northern California.
This is not a traditional real estate development role.
We're looking for someone who has deep experience in affordable housing finance, tax credits, public funding applications, community engagement, and leading development teams. You'll oversee a pipeline of approximately 20 projects while managing a team of project managers and development professionals.
What We're Looking For:
✅ Affordable housing development experience (required)
✅ LIHTC / Tax Credit expertise
✅ Funding applications, grants, loans, and public financing
✅ Experience leading projects from acquisition through construction and closeout
✅ Strong leadership and people management skills
✅ Ability to navigate community meetings, public presentations, and stakeholder engagement
Why This Opportunity?
  • Highly visible leadership role
  • Hybrid work environment
  • Mission-driven organization making a direct impact on underserved communities
  • Opportunity to shape the future growth of a respected affordable housing developer
  • Competitive compensation: $175K-$205K
This is not a fit for commercial real estate, market-rate development, property management, or real estate sales professionals.
If you've spent your career building affordable housing communities and are ready to lead at a strategic level, I'd love to connect.
Benefits: Make a meaningful community impact while enjoying a strong benefits package including Kaiser medical, 403(b), paid time off, and holidays.
