Job description

Position: Director of Music/Accompanist (DMA)
Location: Naval Station Mayport Chapel, Jacksonville, FL
Schedule:
  • Provide piano accompaniment for Protestant and Catholic worship services (approx. 104 per year).
  • Support rehearsals (approx. 116 per year).
  • Perform at special services (approx. 12 per year, e.g., holidays, memorials, or command-requested events).
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide professional piano accompaniment for worship services, rehearsals, and special events.
  • Offer musical direction for both Catholic and Protestant programs, coordinating with chaplains.
  • Perform prelude, offertory, congregational, postlude, and other required musical pieces.
  • Recruit and coordinate with volunteer musicians as needed under chaplain guidance.
  • Maintain accountability of music equipment, reporting needed repairs to CRP staff.
  • Assist with worship bulletins, music requests, and other administrative requirements.
  • Arrange for qualified substitutes during absences, subject to chaplain approval.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to read music and play piano competently in both Catholic and Protestant worship contexts.
  • Experience leading or supporting church/chapel music ministries.
  • Familiarity with sacred and liturgical music across diverse worship traditions.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills for coordinating with chaplains and volunteers.
