Job Summary
The Medical Lab Scientist for Micro and Point of Care:
  • Obtains or receives specimens.
  • Performs clinical laboratory tests by standardized procedures.
  • Understands method principles.
  • Performs quality control and preventive maintenance.
  • Interprets results accurately, acceptably and within critical limits.
  • Works independently, organizing work to meet established deadlines.
  • Validates all data obtained.

Qualifications
Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Clinical/Medical Laboratory Science - OR - Bachelor's in some other field of study AND completion of a Clinical/Medical Laboratory Science program - OR - MT-HEW certification will be considered in lieu of Bachelor's Degree

Experience
  • Clinical Laboratory Science Experience Required
  • Blood Bank Experience Preferred

Certification and Licensure
  • ASCP or AMT eligible

The lab offers cross training opportunities and the opportunity to be part of cross-function process improvement teams. In Fiscal Year 2023, the lab performed 8.5 million tests (including Chemistry, Cytology, Flow Cytometry, Hematology, Coagulation, Histology, Microbiology, Point of Care Testing, Transfusion Services and Urinalysis), 122,751 Anatomical Pathology tests, and 404,139 combined inpatient & outpatient phlebotomy draws. The department consists of over 200 medical laboratory professionals. Reading's lab offers opportunities for advancement and continued career growth (including career advancement ladders for Phlebotomists and Lab Assistants).
