Educational Assistant

3.65 hours/day, 182days/year

Salary Range 9 $22.29 to $30.54/hour

Health Assistant

2.0 hours/day, 182 days/year

Salary Range 10 $22.96 to $31.47/hour

POSITION SUMMARY: The "Instructional Assistant" provides educational supports through supervision and instruction of students under the direction of licensed staff. Assistance to the licensed teacher is achieved through the planning and implementation of assigned instructional programs for students who are not in categorical programs (e.g. special education, ELL) and completing routine clerical tasks.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training, Experience, Licensure and Certification

• Experience Required: Prior job-related experience, paid or volunteer, with school age children.
• Education Required: Completed associates or higher degree, completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (72 college quarter hours or more) or met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment, knowledge of and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
• Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Criminal Justice Fingerprint
• Clearance and First Aid/CPR card.

Knowledge of and Skill in:

• Knowledge of principles of child development and instructional practices
• Operating standard office equipment as well as computer programs and applications (e.g. email, system applications, word processing, database, spreadsheet, desktop publishing)
• Skills to perform basic clerical functions and basic arithmetic calculations
• Communicating effectively in English, both verbally and in writing (e.g. correct spelling,
• grammar and punctuation)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Works under the guidance and direction of the licensed teacher with access to assistance and consultation and regular monitoring

• Provides instructional support and tutoring to students in large groups, small groups, and one-onone situations
• Performs record keeping and basic clerical functions(e.g., scheduling, copying to support teachers in maintaining student files and providing classroom materials
• Confer with teacher(s) to provide feedback on student performance in their areas of instructional responsibilities.
• Help support students in developing positive interpersonal relationships with peers and adults
• Promote safety of the students through the application of the district's student management and safety guidelines
• Monitors individual students, classroom and/or playground activities for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment
• Recognize an escalating/emergency situation, call for help, and defuse/assist with the situation until help arrives
• Evaluates situations to take appropriate action and/or direct the situation to the appropriate personnel for resolution

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Cross-trains in a variety of school functions and assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work
• Maintains classroom equipment, materials, and students' files, records, etc. for the purpose of ensuring availability of items as may be required
• Administers first aid and medical assistance for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, and/or injured children
• Confers, under the supervision of the teacher, with teachers, parents, and/or appropriate community agency personnel for the purpose of assisting in evaluation of students' progress and/or implementing of students' objectives
• Participates in various meetings to share information and/or improving skills and /knowledge
• Assists with the transportation needs of students, including supervision of students to and from the bus, supervision of loading and unloading of busses, and arranging for the transportation needs of students
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor within the scope of the job

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to:

          o sit, stand or walk for prolonged periods of time
          o talk and hear conversations in a potentially noisy environment
          o use precise control of fingers and hand movement, often in a repetitive motion such as
             keyboarding;
          o reach for and handle objects
          o use close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus

• Focus on a computer screen
• Bending, stooping, kneeling and lifting and/or moving up to 40 pounds may also be required on occasion.

 POSITION SUMMARY: The School Health Assistant assists school personnel with specific student health issues and performs clerical duties for the Health Room. This position handles sensitive and confidential issues, requiring excellent communication skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training, Experience, Licensure and Certification

• Experience Required: Prior job-related experience with increasing responsibility
• Education Required: High School Diploma or equivalent
• Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Criminal Justice Fingerprint
• Clearance; Current First Aid/CPR Certificates.

Knowledge of:

• Rules and regulations related to assigned school
• Statistical record keeping
• Customer service principles, protocols, and methods

Skill in:

• Operating medical equipment such as digital thermometers, nebulizers, glucometers, insulin pens/syringes, scales, inhalers, AEDs, and auto-injectors
• Operating standard office equipment as well as computer programs and applications (e.g. email, system applications, word processing, database, spreadsheet)
• Communicating effectively in English, both verbally and in writing (e.g. correct spelling, grammar and punctuation)
• Understanding and carry out verbal and written instructions

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Provides basic first aid and emergency care for illness or injury and refer emergency situations to district nurse, administration, parents, appropriate emergency medical personnel and appropriate support personnel
• Monitor student health status during periods of short-term rest or recovery in the health room
• Collects and maintains data and records on student health issues as required by the district, state, and federal regulations
• Provides delegated health care tasks for students with chronic health problems
• Where appropriate, administers medication to students following District and school protocols under the direction and training of the school nurse
• Keeps accurate records of medication brought to the health room
• Notify nurse and/or parents of medication-related updates or changes such as orders, treatments, practitioner orders, needed refills/pick-ups, expired medication, etc.
• Assists other school personnel with health screenings
• Prepare medications, supplies, and precautions, consult/communicate with teacher and assess need for staff training for field trips
• Monitor students in a variety of settings (e.g. classroom, transportation, field trips) for the purpose of providing care as defined by student health plans and monitoring of student needs
• Maintains and updates student health records
• Maintains appropriate student records for student health histories
• Collects immunization and tuberculosis data
• Composes reports and documents for administrators and other school staff regarding student health issues
• Manages health related referrals from other school staff members
• Processes documents and materials for the purpose of disseminating information to appropriate parties
• Orders necessary supplies for the health room and other materials as requested
• Communicate effectively with parents related to student health issues
• Assist with physically transferring students from wheelchairs, mats, or other positioning equipment

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Cross-trains in a variety of office functions and assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities within scope of pay range and job description
• Assist in general office duties to include answering phones, directing calls, providing proper information, taking messages, preparing and distributing forms and correspondence and ordering supplies
• Performs selected tasks from School Health Management Plan as delegated and supervised by the Registered Nurse
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
