Job description

Position Summary: 

The Process Technician - Shift Supervisor is responsible for executing the daily production schedule while overseeing and guiding the 3rd shift team to ensure on-time delivery, cycle time, scrap, and quality targets are met. This role ensures all machines are operating efficiently, safely, and within quality standards, with special attention to escalation procedures, defect tracking, and BHR compliance. The Process Technician - Shift Supervisor leads and develops the team, troubleshoots and resolves production issues as they arise, and drives continuous improvement efforts to optimize productivity and minimize downtime.

This position is for our 3rd Shift: Monday-Friday with some weekends 11:30pm-8:00am.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

Leadership & People Management 

  • Uphold and communicate the purpose, principles, and vision of TriMas.
  • Lead, train, and mentor the team ensuring high performance and adherence to safety, quality, and production goals. 
  • Train and/or ensure training has been performed and is current for all associates on work instructions and SOPs associated to their assignments before they are released; ensure problem solving at the press and escalation procedures are followed. 
  • Conduct effective and timely performance feedback and annual reviews.
  • Assign direct reports (all operators) to manufacturing operations. 
  • Recommend and communicate working hours each week for direct reports; minimize indirect labor and overtime. 
  • Approve PTO for direct reports. 
  • Initiate disciplinary process; recommend hiring and terminations with the HR department. 
  • Recommend training to develop the team. 

Production & Scheduling 

  • Know real-time status of items on the daily schedule and communicate as requested. 
  • Lead the daily shift meeting and ensure efforts are focused on commitments. 
  • Execute all items on the daily schedule and maximize quality product output during the shift. 
  • Continuously monitor and adjust molding processes to maximize efficiency, reduce waste, and meet production schedules; implement process improvements. 
  • Stop or start presses, assembly, and secondary operations as needed. 
  • Backup the scheduling position in the absence of the Materials Manager/Scheduler. 
  • Other specified duties as required by the Operations Manager. 

Quality & Compliance 

  • Monitor product quality, scrap, and cycle times against target; resolve and escalate non-conformances. 
  • Verify that BHRs are complete and accurate before, during, and after production is complete. 
  • Ensure work instructions, target sheets, travelers, interruption logs, defective unit records, and critical parameter sheets are at the press and being completed properly during the run. 
  • Ensure Epicor scanning is accurate and up to date with good product, scrap, and non-conforming quantities. 
  • Ensure all ISO and IQMS documentation is complete and stored in proper locations. 
  • Ensure compliance with cleanroom procedures and processes (portable, main, and assembly), including completion of F-MFG-034. 
  • Maintain awareness of regulatory and customer requirements as they pertain to Omega's clients, especially for medical clients (ref. ISO 13485). 
  • Adjust processes to ensure products meet quality standards and production timelines. 

Safety & Environment 

  • Follow procedures which promote a workplace where safety and environmental concerns are addressed to meet OSHA and EPA regulations. 
  • Ensure safety and cleanliness of the work environment in compliance with state and federal requirements. 

Process & Technical Responsibilities 

  • Perform mold, automation, and work cell set-ups. 
  • Perform all resin material handling requirements. 
  • Advanced molding process troubleshooting; work closely with engineering, maintenance, supervisors, and quality departments to ensure smooth operation. 
  • Light molding machine PM work, including screw pulling. 
  • Minor automation troubleshooting. 
  • Advanced use of quality equipment for measurements and advanced print reading. 
  • Assist with validation activities. 

Reporting & Documentation 

  • Maintain accurate records of process parameters, production logs, and equipment maintenance. 
  • Provide regular reports on production performance and issues to management. 
  • Daily performance tracking: report and review operation results daily with the Operations Manager. 

Physical Demands/Work Environment: 

  • Work performed in a manufacturing plant and cleanroom environment. 
  • Requires normal mobility to move around the office and manufacturing environment. 
  • This role involves occasional work on a computer. 
  • Frequently exposed to varying temperatures within the plant; noise levels may be loud at times. 
  • Frequently walks, stands, grips/grasps, bends/stoops, crouches, and lifts and carries up to fifty-five (55) lbs. 

 

On-Site: This role is required to be on-site 5-6 days at the Clinton Township, MI location.
