Job description

TITLE: Instructional Assistant

JOB GOAL: To support student academic achievement through supplemental instructional support, small-group tutoring, and classroom assistance. The Instructional Assistant works with teachers and students to reinforce academic skills, monitor student progress, and help create a positive and productive learning environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of at least two years of college coursework (60 credit hours), an associate degree, or successful completion of the ParaPro Assessment preferred.
  • Knowledge of child development, reading strategies, and basic classroom management techniques.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, staff, and parents.
  • Demonstrated patience, positivity, and a supportive attitude toward student learning.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist teachers in preparing and delivering instructional lessons and activities.
  • Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce reading skills and academic concepts.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers regarding student performance.
  • Support the administration of academic assessments and related documentation.
  • Assist with classroom management using positive behavior support strategies.
  • Prepare instructional materials and maintain organized records.
  • Assist with classroom organization and help maintain a safe, welcoming, and productive learning environment.
  • Participate in parent conferences and meetings as requested.
  • Operate classroom technology and standard office equipment as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and educational records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher or principal.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical requirements described below are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

  • Frequently exert 10 to 20 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move materials and equipment.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, and move throughout the school environment during the workday.
  • This position primarily involves sitting; however, standing, walking, and occasional running may be required.
  • Ability to actively supervise and assist students in classroom and school settings.
  • Ability to perceive the nature of sounds; possess near and far visual acuity, depth perception, and manual dexterity sufficient to operate classroom and office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and provide oral information to students, staff, and parents.
