Description
Facilitates discussion Groups to clients and/or individuals currently in County Detention Centers. Identify and engage incarcerated individuals to participate in "Reach-in: recovery support groups in detention centers for at least 30 days. Provide mental health peer support to facilitate successful transition from incarceration to the community. Identify strengths, abilities and priority needed services to reduce barriers to support successful re-entry into clinical/community based services. Will provide rehabilitative services in both individual and group settings. Assist clients in articulating personal goals for recovery and supports individuals in identifying and creating goals and developing recovery plans with the skills, strengths, supports and resources to aid them in achieving those goals. Assist clients in setting up and sustaining self-help (mutual support) groups, as well as means of locating and joining existing groups. Utilize tools such as Getting into the Driver's Seat of Your Treatment, Preparing for Your Plan, to assist clients in creating their own individual wellness and recovery plans. Assist clients in building skills that will enhance job acquisition and tenure. Teach and role model the value of every individual's recovery experience. Assist client in obtaining affordable housing of his/her choice in the most integrated, independent, and least intrusive or restrictive environment. Models effective coping techniques and self-help strategies. Assist in obtaining services that suit that individual's recovery needs. Assist clients in developing empowerment skills and combating stigma through self-advocacy. Works under moderate supervision with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Requirements
Graduation from an accredited High School or GED certificate issued in accordance with the Texas law. Must have at least one cumulative year of receiving mental health services from or through the department. Must demonstrate competency in the provision and documentation of Medicaid MH rehabilitative services. Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
Must be a Certified Peer Specialist for 2 years and complete Forensic Re-Entry Training within one (1) year of hire. This includes the core peer services training, SUD Recovery Coach or Mental Health Peer training, and 250 hours of initial supervised work experience. Required to adhere to the Core Competencies and Ethics for Peer Specialist in behavioral health services.
