*This position is currently only open to long term care associates at Birchaven and Independence House.*Medication Aide ScholarshipThe purpose of this posting is to identify internal candidates for the opportunity to receive a scholarship to attend Medication Aide classes through Birchaven Village MA-C Program. The Medication Aide program is comprised of 80 classroom hours and 40 clinicals hours.
What is a Medication Aide?A Medication Aide is trained to work under the direct supervision of a caretaker or licensed health care professional. They provide routine medication by oral, inhalation, topical and instillation routes when appropriate direction and monitoring is provided.
- To work as a CMA in a nursing home, you must have a current STNA license issued through the state of Ohio, or;
- To work as a CMA in a resident care facility, you must have a current STNA license in the state of Ohio or have at least one year's direct care experience in a long-term care facility comprised of 1600 hours.
Requirements for this position include:- Proof of diploma or GED
- Proof of required STNA or on year LTC experience with 1600 hours.
- Completed Registration
- Completed and passed practice test with 80% or better.
- FBI/ BCI completed within the last year and sent to:
- Ohio Board of Nursing at 8995 East Main St. Reynoldsburg, Ohio 43068
- Ohio Revised Code Number: ORC 4723.091.

Upon successful completion of the MA-C training program you will need to schedule your test within 60 days. You will have 2 attempts to pass the knowledge and skills test. Birchaven Village and Independence House will pay for the first exam. If you fail a component of the exam, you will have six months from your testing date to complete your second attempt. If you fail either competent of your exam 2 times, or you do not complete your two-attempt testing cycle within the time frame required, you must complete a new OBN approved MA-C training program to further attempt Ohio Medication Aid Certification. Re-enrollment will not be guaranteed.
Associates of Birchaven and Independence House will be required to accept a MA-C position that is open unless otherwise agreed upon prior to entry of the program.
Attendance for the class is mandatory. If there are any days missed, there are only 30 days to make up the missed time from the first date of the missed day. Make up days are not guaranteed, and you may be ineligible for completion of the program without guaranteed re-entry.
