Job description

Tomorrow RDS is a successful, growing company that has an excellent position available for a Scale Operator. This position presents an opportunity to work among automated, state-of-the-art, high-tech recycling equipment and machinery including robotics to see commingled recycling materials be sorted into pristine bales for sale and shipment to end-market vendors where they are remanufactured into new products. This position will be responsible for recording inbound and outbound truck weight and information into the TRUX software application, as well as assisting with shipping and receiving paperwork and answering the phone to respond to customer needs. Will also need to track and report facility downtime. This position should bring a friendly and enthusiastic demeanor to their tasks here at Tomorrow RDS, and a willingness to assist with additional tasks such as light cleaning. Must be reliable, on time, and have transportation. Prior office work and customer service experience are preferred but not necessary.

Job Description

Responsible for recording inbound and outbound truck weight and information into the TRUX software application, as well as assisting with shipping and receiving paperwork and answering the phone to respond to customer needs. May also need to track and report facility downtime. Assist with additional tasks such as light cleaning and managing office supply inventory.

Report to: The scale operator will report to the Plant and General Manager.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Learn how to use the scale software scale program "Weigh-it"
  • Operate the scale daily. Weigh trucks inbound and outbound, logging weights and information into TRUX.  
  • Input overnight and weekend vehicles. Keep the night driver log available for night drivers. 
  • Ensure all shipping & receiving paperwork is filled out correctly & entered TRUX for payment or invoicing.  
  • Answer phones and assist customers in a professional manner. 
  • Oversee all general office functions. Assist in maintaining the office and surrounding area in a professional and organized manner including light cleaning tasks.  
  • Help maintain a list of preferred vendors for services and products.  
  • Provide support to general manager and plant manager as needed and perform other office related work to be determined.  
  • Send out daily and monthly reports to management and customers. (Activity and Inventory reports, etc.) 
  • Know and enforce visitor policy.  
  • Work with and assist employees with basic time clock operation. 
  • Works closely with Corporate Accounting and HR.
  • May manages calendars and schedules appointments.
  • Manage truck records (vehicle inspections, hauling permits, trailer inspections etc.) in TEAMS. 
  • Sorts incoming mail and delivers to appropriate department or individual, processes outgoing mail.
  • Manages office supply inventory – may send requests to Corporate
  • Communicate with plant personnel to ensure trucks are loaded correctly with enough of the proper material.
  • May help coordinate with the maintenance mechanic the truck & route schedules for repairs and maintenance.  
  • Learn our customer base. Anticipate and assist them with their needs, including the scheduling and coordination of pickups and recycling. This may include scheduling the roll-off containers.
  • If working in North Carolina, all scale operators must be licensed as a 'Public Weighmaster'. This should be completed within the first 60-days of hire/promotion.

  • Schedule and coordinate the collection of material using our trucks. This will include the addition and deletion of stops, missed pickups and extra service. 
  • Generate work orders for company vehicles. Schedule and coordinate all third party roll off work. Input appropriate information into scale software for invoicing and payment.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required or associate degree in office administration or related field, preferred.
  • Must be reliable and on time.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and have reliable transportation.
  • Prior office work and customer service experience required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift fifteen (15) pounds at times.
  • Must successfully pass a drug screen, prior to start date.
