Job description

  • Position Summary
    • The function of an RCP-2 is to perform various diagnostic and therapeutic modalities to patients with acute and chronic respiratory disease and/or illness. Under the direction of the patient's physician, the RCP-2 is responsible for setting up and operating various types of Respiratory Care Equipment. This can vary from routine prescribed treatment modalities to life support systems such as a mechanical ventilator. This position is also required to perform various tests to assess the patient's cardiopulmonary function status. This position may receive, secure and transport medications as necessary. In addition, The practitioner must be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the following: 1. Airway care. 2. Ventilator mechanics and theory. 3. Hemodynamics and its relationship to the patients total body function. 4. Pulmonary mechanics and ventilator weaning.The RCP-2 must be able to perform the duties of the RCP and Tech Assistants and may be required to act as a resource person for these levels under the direction of the Team Leader or designee.

  • License & Certification
    • Candidates for hire must possess RRT credential to be considered for a position. Unless covered under a grandfather provision, as outlined by the Composite State Medical Board, must maintain an active RRT credential with the NBRC - Required
    • Blood Gas licensure through State of GA - Required; 30 Continuing Education Units every two years to maintain RCP license - Required; Minimum BCLS Certification; BLS and ACLS - Required; AALS and NRP - Preferred
  • Core Job Functions
    • Performs chart review and assesses patient for appropriate respiratory care treatment.
    • Performs intubations. Assures airways are functioning properly. Assures proper placement of intubation or arterial lines. Airway maintenance and oxygenation during emergency procedures are performed.
    • Initiate treatment as per physician order. Replace humidifiers and/or therapy appliances as needed.
    • Patient and/or equipment issues are handled as needed. Participates in patient treatment in times of increased volume or reduced staffing. Responds to Nursing Staff requests in a timely manner.
    • Per physician order, performs diagnostic testing, administration of oxygen and assists physicians with bronchoscopies. Demonstrate a thorough understanding of airway care, ventilator mechanics and theory, hemodynamics and pulmonary mechanics and ventilator weaning.
