The City of Lake Alfred is seeking a proven, hands-on law enforcement leader to serve as our next Police Lieutenant – Patrol Division. This is a key leadership role responsible for supervising patrol operations, developing personnel, and ensuring the effective delivery of police services to our community.

In a growing city like ours, this position requires a leader who is operationally strong, people-focused, and ready to step in when it matters most.


What You’ll Do

As a Police Lieutenant, you will lead from the fron, balancing field operations with administrative oversight:

  • Supervise, schedule, and deploy patrol personnel based on operational needs and priorities
  • Lead, coach, and evaluate officers and sergeants to maintain high performance and accountability
  • Ensure readiness for emergency response, disaster situations, and critical incidents
  • Review reports, monitor activity, and ensure accuracy, professionalism, and compliance
  • Address personnel issues, including coaching, discipline, and conflict resolution
  • Support recruitment, hiring, and training of new officers
  • Coordinate and deliver in-service training programs
  • Maintain strong communication with command staff regarding incidents, trends, and operations
  • Engage with the community and respond to citizen concerns professionally and effectively
  • Step into operational roles and assist with calls for service when needed

This role is designated as mission-critical and requires a high level of reliability and leadership presence.


What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a leader who brings both experience and presence:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Police Administration, or related field (Bachelor’s preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years of law enforcement experience
  • At least 1 year of experience at the rank of Sergeant
  • Experience in training and valid instructor certification
  • Ability to work varied shifts, including extended hours when needed

Certifications & Requirements:

  • Florida Law Enforcement Certification (FDLE)
  • Mid-Management and/or First-Line Supervision certification
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License
