The Coordinator, Rampart Science & Engineering Labs shall work under the direction of the Director of Lab Operations and Budgets, to support the delivery of high-quality instructional services in both science and engineering laboratory facilities at the PPSC Rampart Range Campus (RRC). This role will include collaboration with lead faculty to develop and maintain specific lab and lesson schedules each term, purchasing and receiving supplies in a timely manner, ensuring that all lab materials are prepared, and hiring, scheduling, training, and supervising RRC science and engineering part-time lab techs and work-study students. This role is responsible for supporting the Director of Lab Operations and Budgets by providing daily management of the RRC laboratory facilities and equipment to ensure a safe and optimal student learning environment.
Please note: This is a 12-month position.
REPORTS TO: Director of Lab Operations and Budgets

Duties & Responsibilities:

Science & Engineering Laboratory Operational Readiness and Planning
โ€ข Coordinate daily laboratory schedules and ensure science labs are prepared for instructional use, including setup and breakdown of equipment, chemicals, materials, and supplies.
โ€ข Ensure operational readiness of science and engineering laboratories, including fabrication spaces, by coordinating setup, breakdown, space utilization, and shared equipment scheduling to support instructional efficiency.
โ€ข Support technical environments containing powered machinery, mechanical and electrical systems, testing stations, compressed air systems, and related infrastructure while promoting safe layout, workflow organization, and hazard mitigation.
โ€ข Respond to lab-related emergencies or operational disruptions.
โ€ข Support preventative maintenance planning and maintain service documentation for science and engineering equipment.
โ€ข Enforce compliance with safety protocols, SOPs, and hazard communication standards.
Engineering Infrastructure & Safety Oversight
โ€ข Serve as the primary coordinator overseeing engineering laboratory, fabrication, and build spaces.
โ€ข Monitor safe operation of powered equipment, mechanical systems, electrical apparatus, and student-operated technical tools.
โ€ข Ensure proper guarding, signage, labeling, hazard communication, and implementation of lockout/tagout procedures as applicable.
โ€ข Coordinate equipment inspections, certification tracking, and safety compliance documentation.
โ€ข Provide recommendations to the Director regarding engineering space organization, workflow efficiency, and risk reduction.
Science Laboratory Daily Operations, Technical Support, & Safety
โ€ข Prepare or assist in preparation of reagents, percentage and molarity stock solutions, microbiological media, and other instructional materials.
โ€ข Troubleshoot laboratory experiments and equipment malfunctions.
โ€ข Maintain compliant storage of chemicals, biological materials, preserved specimens, and laboratory tools.
โ€ข Ensure laboratory technology and instructional equipment remain functional and available.
โ€ข Oversee chemical and biological waste disposal in compliance with the PPSC Chemical Hygiene Plan and all applicable regulations as designated by the Director.
Supervision, Training & Leadership
โ€ข Hire, train, supervise, schedule, and evaluate part-time Lab Assistants and work-study employees.
โ€ข Train laboratory personnel and faculty in chemical handling, biological safety practices, equipment use, and standard operating procedures.
โ€ข Maintain safety and hazard communication training documentation.
โ€ข Promote a proactive safety culture while managing multiple operational priorities in a complex technical environment.
โ€ข Assist with backup and leave support for other SEM lab coordinators across the district on an as needed basis, to assure that all science, engineering, and animal labs receive proper support.
Inventory Management & Organizational Systems
โ€ข Maintain and update inventory databases for equipment, engineering tools, chemicals, biological materials, and consumables.
โ€ข Ensure accurate hazard classification, labeling, storage documentation, and lifecycle tracking of specialized equipment. Equipment Maintenance & Technical Oversight
โ€ข Coordinate repair, servicing, and calibration of laboratory instrumentation and fabrication tools, including associated software updates.
โ€ข Notify Facilities of infrastructure or major equipment failures.
โ€ข Operate and troubleshoot specialized laboratory and engineering equipment as needed. โ€ข Provide maintenance reports, certification updates, and cost tracking information to the Director.
Chemical & Biological Safety Compliance
โ€ข Oversee chemical waste disposal and biohazard decontamination in accordance with the PPSC Chemical Hygiene Plan and all applicable regulations.
โ€ข Enforce SOPs for safe handling, labeling, storage, segregation, and disposal of hazardous materials.
โ€ข Assist with laboratory safety inspections and documentation of corrective actions.
Purchasing & Budget Support
โ€ข Procure laboratory and engineering supplies using P-Card and purchase orders in compliance with institutional and State procurement policies, maintaining purchasing documentation for reconciliation and audit review.
โ€ข Assist the Director with cost tracking, reporting, and operational budget support. Organizational & Director Support
โ€ข Partner with the Director to standardize procedures and maintain compliance across science and engineering laboratories.
โ€ข Assist with documentation for certifications, audits, and regulatory reporting.
โ€ข Provide recommendations for improved space utilization, workflow design, safety mitigation, and long-term equipment planning.

Minimum Qualifications:

โ€ข Minimum of one year of professional-level work experience in a laboratory setting
โ€ข A completed bachelor's degree in either a science field or engineering from a Higher Learning Commission accredited institution OR completed an associate's degree in a science field from a regionally accredited institution with two years of professional level experience performing similar duties to those described for this position.
โ€ข Prior Supervisory experience.
โ€ข Experience using word processing, spreadsheet software, and data entry.
โ€ข Excellent interpersonal skills and great attention to detail.
Professional level experience is defined by the Colorado Division of Human Resources: A position that involves the exercise of discretion, analytical skill, judgment, personal accountability, and responsibility for creating, developing, integrating, applying, or sharing an organized body of knowledge. Colorado revised statute (C.R.S. 24-50-135(1) allows colleges to exempt positions from the State Personnel Classified System that are determined to be professional level work.

Preferred Qualifications:

โ€ข A minimum of 2 college laboratory courses completed in biology, 2 laboratory college courses in chemistry, and 1 college laboratory course in engineering
โ€ข Demonstrated familiarity with 3D-printing, makerspace, or other fabrication lab equipment or environments.
โ€ข Two or more years of professional-level work experience in a laboratory setting at a postsecondary institution, including knowledge and experience with all safety regulations.
โ€ข One or more years of direct supervisory experience.
โ€ข Prior experience with purchasing, record-keeping, and using Banner.
