Job description

Description:

First Response Rail Service is seeking an experienced Railcar Mechanic with strong expertise in air brake systems and ASCABT inspections and repairs. This position requires extensive travel to customer sites and rail yards to perform mechanical repairs, regulatory inspections, and maintenance services.


The ideal candidate is safety-focused, self-motivated, and experienced in working independently in field environments.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform air brake inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs in compliance with FRA and AAR regulations
  • Conduct ASCABT inspections and repairs as required
  • Diagnose mechanical defects and complete necessary repairs on freight railcars
  • Replace and rebuild valves, cylinders, piping, and related brake components
  • Perform single car air brake tests and ensure proper documentation
  • Maintain compliance with all safety standards and company procedures
  • Complete accurate service reports and inspection documentation
  • Travel to various rail yards and customer locations as required
Requirements:

Requirements

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience as a Railcar Mechanic
  • Demonstrated expertise in air brake systems and ASCABT
  • Working knowledge of FRA and AAR regulations
  • Ability to perform single car air brake tests
  • Strong troubleshooting and mechanical skills
  • Valid driverโ€™s license and clean driving record
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physically demanding work

Preferred Qualifications

  • AAR or company certification in air brake systems
  • Welding experience (a plus)
  • Mobile repair or field service experience
