Job description

PURPOSE OF ROLE:
Primarily responsible for moving railcars within the yard, positioning them for loading, and unloading using the specific equipment. The role is to ensure the efficient movement of railcars within the yard while adhering to safety guidelines and operational standards. They must communicate effectively with other yard personnel and ensure the proper alignment of railcars and tracks.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Trained in operating the specific equipment for the movements (Rail King) along with the safety and operating procedures

  • Inspecting tracks and equipment for safety hazards

  • Works in conjunction with the Rail Lead to complete intra-yard railcar switches to supplement TGS

  • Monitors railcar placement in Ravago's yard and reports railcar activity and locations back to the Rail Manager

  • Back up to the Lead and switchman

  • Coordinates with Rail Lead to ensure rail equipment is kept in working condition

  • Execute assignments in an accurate, timely, and safe manner

  • Support the blending and packaging operations during any downtime by connecting hoses, collecting samples, building boxes, etc.

  • Perform any additional duties as assigned by the Rail Manager or Operations Manager.

KNOWLEDGE / QUALIFICATONS / SKILLS / EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum 2 years rail operations experience, including experience operating a locomotive

  • Functional understanding of the processes, procedures, and safety requirements necessary for working in a rail yard and operating a locomotive.

  • Experience using railcar management and warehouse management systems a plus

  • Proficient computer skills

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Good math, language, and reading skills

  • Functional knowledge of a warehouse environment

  • Considerate and respectful to coworkers

  • Able to follow instructions given for daily tasks

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School Diploma/GED

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • A variety of standing, sitting and walking is required throughout the day, including extended periods of time working outside on your feet

  • Ability to operate heavy machinery and equipment

  • Ability to work in a fast paced warehouse setting
