Job description

SALARY

POSITION SUMMARY
Under general supervision, coordinates and oversees the activities of Rail Janitors and work groups assigned to rail janitorial services and assists management in the development and implementation of maintenance improvement programs based on inspection results, industry best practices, and department goals and objectives.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Oversees activities of janitorial services work teams for assigned facilities.
o Monitors employee work performance, coaches and instructs employees according to work standards, and coordinates work schedules to ensure clean and safe facilities for internal and external customers.
o Conducts field inspections to areas assigned to Rail Janitors to monitor work performance and conditions.
o Inspects rail facilities for defects and reports defects to the Service Desk.
o Ensures the adherence of Rail Janitors to established rules, policies, and procedures.
o Monitors product usage to observe trends to make data driven decisions for enhancements, new features and products.
• Maintains weekly inventory of supplies and monitors conditions of janitorial cleaning equipment.
• Prepares and distributes a variety of reports and documents accomplished tasks.
• Assists with the investigation and response of Local Union 308 grievances. Administers corrective action/discipline in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Determines work procedures during periods of inclement weather to ensure prompt snow or sleet removal at critical locations.
• Issues written or oral instructions relative to the activities of Rail Janitors and work groups.
• Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of department initiatives and work processes and procedures. Identifies and provides recommendations for area of improvement within the Facilities Maintenance Department.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

• To ensure that the stations are kept in a clean, safe and functional manner and the staff are adhering to the policies and procedures of the company.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• High School Diploma or GED plus two (2) years of janitorial and/or facilities maintenance experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience relating to this position.
• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Must have a valid State of Illinois Driver's License.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Requires stooping, bending, kneeling, standing, walking and climbing.
• Must be able to lift, carry, and maneuver materials weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• Working knowledge of cleaning methods, procedures, and materials as it relates to facilities maintenance and janitorial services.
• Working knowledge of facility maintenance processes and procedures.
• Working knowledge of the methods of conducting inspections.
• Working knowledge of collective bargaining agreements and union contract provisions governing Rail Janitors.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Good customer service skills.
• Intermediate Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills preferred.
• Ability to multi-task and work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Ability to lead effectively in a team environment.
• Ability to write reports containing technical information.
WORKING CONDITIONS
• Required to work in the field, subject to existing weather conditions.
• Must travel throughout CTA service area when monitoring the performance of assigned personnel.
• Subject to normal subway conditions such as noise, dust, moving vehicles, etc. when visiting field locations.
• Must be available for emergency calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
• Must work in close proximity to moving vehicles and energized third rail.
EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, AND MATERIALS UTILIZED
• Standard office equipment.
• Personal computer and related software, two-way radio, cell phone, and all tools and material associated with the Rail Janitors.
