Title: Tait Radio Engineer
Duration: 6 Months
Location: Portland, OR
Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Tait Radio Engineer to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of Tait Communications products and technologies, with a proven track record in the design, installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of complex radio systems.
You will be instrumental in ensuring the optimal performance and reliability of our clients' communication networks.
Responsibilities
  • System Design &Architecture: Collaborate with clients and internal teams to understandcommunication requirements and design Tait radio solutions, including DMR,MPT-IP, and conventional systems. This includes creating system diagrams,equipment lists, and technical specifications.
  • Installation &Commissioning: Lead and execute the physical installation, wiring, andpower-up of Tait base stations, repeaters, antennas, and associatedinfrastructure. Perform system commissioning, acceptance testing, andhandover to clients.
  • Configuration &Programming: Configure and program Tait radio equipment, includingsubscriber radios, base stations, and network controllers, using Taitsoftware tools (e.g., Tait System Management, DMR Administrator, EnableFleet).
  • Troubleshooting &Support: Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues related to Taitradio systems, including RF performance, network connectivity, andsoftware anomalies. Provide ongoing technical support to clients, bothon-site and remotely.
  • RF Optimization: Conduct sitesurveys, perform RF coverage analysis, and optimize radio networkperformance to ensure reliable and efficient communication.
  • Documentation &Reporting: Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of systemconfigurations, network diagrams, troubleshooting procedures, and projectprogress. Generate reports as required.
  • Training & Mentoring:Provide technical guidance and training to junior engineers and clients onTait radio systems and best practices.
  • Client RelationshipManagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuringtheir satisfaction with our services and solutions.
  • Staying Current: Continuouslyresearch and stay up-to-date with the latest Tait product releases,software updates, and industry trends.

Requirements
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree inElectrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field (orequivalent practical experience).
  • Minimum of 10 years ofexperience (e.g., 5+ years) working directly with Tait Communicationsradio systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of Taitproduct lines, including:
    • Tait DMR (Tier 2 & Tier3)
    • Tait MPT-IP
    • Tait Conventional systems
  • Strong understanding of radiofrequency (RF) principles, including:
    • Antenna theory andpropagation
    • RF test equipment (spectrumanalyzers, power meters, network analyzers)
    • RF safety standards
  • Proficiency with Taitsoftware tools for system management, configuration, and diagnostics.
  • Experience with IP networkingconcepts, including TCP/IP, routing, and switching, as they relate toradio systems.
  • Excellent troubleshooting andproblem-solving skills with a methodical approach.
  • Strong written and verbalcommunication skills, with the ability to explain complex technicalconcepts clearly.
