Job description

Job Summary -

We are seeking an Engineering Technician III to support the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of mobile radio systems across fleet vehicles throughout Colorado. This is a hands-on field position ideal for candidates with automotive electrical, vehicle electronics, or mechanical installation experience who enjoy working independently and traveling to multiple locations.

The primary responsibility is installing Motorola and other vendor radio systems in a wide variety of fleet vehicles. As you gain experience, you will also perform troubleshooting and repair activities.

Key Responsibilities -

  • Install Motorola and other vendor mobile radio systems in fleet vehicles.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose radio and vehicle electrical issues.
  • Work on a diverse fleet including:
    • Pickup trucks
    • Heavy equipment
    • Freightliners
    • Polaris Rangers
    • Snow Cats
    • Tuggers
    • Other specialty vehicles
  • Read and follow installation instructions, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Disassemble and reassemble vehicle interiors as needed to complete installations.
  • Manage work assignments through ServiceNow and communicate regularly with the dispatch/lead team.
  • Travel throughout Colorado to various service centers while providing excellent customer service.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work environment while following company safety procedures.

Required Qualifications -

  • Experience working in the automotive, mechanical, or vehicle electronics industry.
  • Knowledge of 12V/24V vehicle electrical systems and wiring.
  • Experience installing or troubleshooting mobile electronics, stereos, radios, or similar equipment.
  • Ability to safely disassemble and reassemble vehicle interiors.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Comfortable using hand and power tools.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications -

Experience in one or more of the following is highly preferred:

  • Motorola radio installation or service
  • Mobile communications systems
  • Emergency vehicle upfitting
  • Radio service shops
  • BearCom
  • Day Wireless
  • Best Buy Mobile Electronics Installation
  • Ambulance or fire apparatus building
  • Automotive mechanic or technician experience

Training -

  • Initial paid training in Minnesota for several weeks.
  • Approximately four weeks of on-the-job training alongside the Colorado team.
  • Company provides all necessary installation tools, laptop, and company vehicle.

Work Environment -

  • Primarily works in fleet maintenance garages.
  • Frequent travel throughout Colorado service centers.
  • Occasional outdoor work depending on project requirements.
  • Independent field-based role with minimal supervision.

Safety Requirements -

Candidates must be willing to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including:

  • Steel or composite toe boots
  • High-visibility safety vest
  • Hard hat
  • Safety glasses
  • Hearing protection when required

Travel -

  • Significant travel throughout Colorado.
  • Company vehicle provided.
  • Hotel, mileage, and approved travel expenses are reimbursed (receipts required).
  • No per diem.
  • Non-local candidates are welcome to apply but must be willing to relocate at their own expense.

Interview Process -

  • One virtual Microsoft Teams interview with a panel of 3–4 stakeholders.
  • A second interview may be conducted for select candidates if needed.
