Hourly Rate: $48.34

Key Accountabilities:
Operation and maintenance of communications systems.
  • Construct, maintain, test, repair, and inspect radio transmitters and receivers, public address systems, radio control systems, etc.
  • Respond to emergency conditions as required to maintain operation of the MBTA Commuter Rail.
  • Involves working outside in all types of weather conditions year-round.
  • Attend and participate in all assigned training.

Comply with all regulations, safety rules, and procedures.
  • PA Systems
  • Base Radio Systems (ICOM, Motorola, Kenwood)
  • Portable, Mobile, Train Radios (ICOM, Motorola, Kenwood) .
  • Dispatch Radio Console (Avtec)
  • Data Radios
  • Microwave Radio
  • Circuit board, Schematic review, Component level Repair
  • Other assigned duties

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Must be able to communicate successfully with a variety of disciplines and levels, both internal and external staff.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Must be able to use basic hand tools,
  • Basic computer and networking skills
  • Must pass exam for electronic technician - Radio Maintainer.
  • Digging (ditches/trenches)
  • Climbing towers, ladders and stairs
  • Standing for long durations
  • Ability to push/pull/ lift over 50lbs
  • Working in all inclement weather

Experience:
  • Must have FCC General Class radio / telephone license or NABAR Certification.
  • Experience with electronic testing equipment (multimeters, Spectrum analyzers, Watt meters , Etc.)
  • Knowledge of testing and maintaining radio transmitters and receivers, public address systems, DC and tone radio control systems.
  • Must have High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Trade and/or vocational training preferred.
  • Preferred 2 or more years work experience in a related field.
  • Must possess valid driver's license.
  • Must attend RWP course and pass examination.
