Communications & Radio Systems Specialist
Location: Naples, FL
About the Role
A public-sector organization serving a large community is seeking a Communications & Radio Systems Specialist for a 6-month contract-to-hire position. This role manages the lifecycle of critical communications systems, including radio, telecommunications, and IT infrastructure. The position supports procurement, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and emergency operations.
You will work closely with internal teams, vendors, and partner agencies to ensure reliable, secure, and effective communications systems.
Key Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair radios, repeaters, intercoms, CCTV, and other communications equipment
  • Maintain radio ID logs, inventory, maintenance records, and equipment databases
  • Research, recommend, and procure new or upgraded communications technology
  • Provide IT support for servers, workstations, and networked systems
  • Configure and update software, user accounts, and security settings
  • Support communications operations during emergencies or disaster events
  • Perform vehicle-based and field equipment installations and repairs
  • Train staff and ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations
Required Qualifications
  • Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Experience with radio communications, telecommunications, or IT systems
  • Knowledge of hardware, software, and network troubleshooting
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Public safety or mission-critical communications experience
  • NICET or related certifications
  • Experience coordinating with multiple agencies, departments, or vendors

Physical & Work Environment Requirements
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and maneuver equipment (50+ lbs)
  • Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and perform fine motor tasks
  • Work indoors and outdoors, including in hot, noisy, or hazardous conditions
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including emergency response
