Job description

This is a multi-level posting. Candidates may be considered for any of the posted levels, depending on education, years of experience and depth of expertise.

The engineer provides technical work and directs others in technical work in the planning, designing, procurement and construction of additions, changes or maintenance to MidAmerican Energy Company's generating units. The senior level engineer may participate in the direction of work for the engineer 2 ,engineer 1, drafting technicians, contractors and craft personnel. Preference will be given to applicants with an electrical engineering background. 

MidAmerican Energy Company, a Midwest utility, provides regulated electric and natural gas service to more than 1.6 million customers in Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota. Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution. 

Zero-one year of industry experience as a practicing engineer. 

Electrical engineering degree preferred. 

One-three of industry experience as a practicing engineer required for the engineer 2.

Five years of industry experience as a practicing engineer, and must be a licensed PE. If no PE license then must have eight or more years as a practicing engineer required for the senior engineer. 

High level of technical knowledge, judgment and capability in the engineering discipline. Effective communicator with technical and managerial personnel within and external to MidAmerican Energy Company. Broad analytical skills. Advanced project management skills. Effective oral and written communication skills. Effective analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.

Provide engineering services for the planning, design and construction of project additions or maintenance to MidAmerican Energy Company's generation system. (40%) Provide technical project management for all phases of a project including scheduling, design, estimates, engineering specifications, drawings, materials procurement, construction contracts, cost tracking and project cost projections. (25%) Conduct engineering studies and investigations and prepare oral and written reports. (15%) Provide engineering assistance to other departments. (15%) Attend training in designated areas. (5%) Provide technical leadership to staff. Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
