GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTIONReports to: Maintenance Director
Department: Maintenance
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Title:Porter Position Status: Essential
Home/Life Services Inc. established in 1995, is a community-based, human services organization committed to improving the economic and social health of families impacted by homelessness. Operating from a client centered perspective, Home/Life provides a safe and therapeutic environment that supports the social and economic independence of its families served. By developing and implementing innovative services and programs within our Families with Children's facilities, we provide case management and job counseling, as well as help our families access the economic housing support that allows them to enter and stay in permanent housing.
Under the direction of the Maintenance Director, The Porter is responsible for maintaining cleanliness of the interior and exterior of the building.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The responsibilities of the Porter include but not limited to:
Programmatic Achievement:
• Sweep, mop, and wax floors throughout the facility
• Sweep in front and around the building, garden, and parking lot
• Clean bathrooms, windows, elevators and other areas that may require cleaning
• Empty and maintain garbage areas to be clean and orderly in accordance to department of sanitation standards and adhere to garbage removal requirements i.e.: days and times garbage removal should occur
• Responsible for snow removal during winter months and leaf removal during the fall months
• Receive deliveries, lift boxes, and deliver them to the appropriate area of the facility
• Move and relocate furniture throughout the facility
• Assist families in moving in and out of facilities
• Maintain kitchen cleanliness and orderliness, if required
• Handle food in an appropriate manner following state and city regulations if required
• Maintain all perimeters around the building in accordance to department of sanitation standards
• Ensure all common areas are maintained and presentable at all times
• Ability to turn over units within an appropriate timeframe
• Snake bathrooms in units
• Ensure building is in compliance in preparation for future audits, RSRI etc.
• Report any maintenance or safety issues to management
• Assist Recreation Coordinator/ Staff and volunteers with preparing the area for programming (rec room, back yard). (Organizing chairs, tables etc.)
• Assist maintenance with getting offline units back online (clean appliances, sweep, mop and wax unit clean bathroom, assist with painting).
• In the event of an emergency, Essential Employees are required to report to work as scheduled
Duties and responsibilities are subject to change based upon assessment of company needs
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
• High School diploma or equivalent required
• One year of experience in housekeeping preferred
• Must be able to interact effectively with the facility staff and client population
• Must be capable of heavy lifting at least 50 lbs.
• Must be able to work effectively in a team environment
• Must be able to cover coworkers shifts during vacation time and other events
• Bilingual - English/Spanish plus
