Job description

HPE Labs - Quantum Computing Research Associate (Intern)
This role has been designed as ''Onsite' with an expectation that you will primarily work from an HPE office.
Who We Are:
Hewlett Packard Enterprise is the global edge-to-cloud company advancing the way people live and work. We help companies connect, protect, analyze, and act on their data and applications wherever they live, from edge to cloud, so they can turn insights into outcomes at the speed required to thrive in today's complex world. Our culture thrives on finding new and better ways to accelerate what's next. We know varied backgrounds are valued and succeed here. We have the flexibility to manage our work and personal needs. We make bold moves, together, and are a force for good. If you are looking to stretch and grow your career our culture will embrace you. Open up opportunities with HPE.
Job Description:
The HPE Quantum team at HPE Labs is developing new approaches for quantum computing, including integration with high performance computing. We are simultaneously solving research problems and creating structures for HPE's business offerings in this area.
Our team is seeking summer interns to help advance our work in quantum computing, contributing across areas such as quantum algorithms, tensor networks, many-body physics, and quantum software development. You will be at the forefront of efforts to turn quantum computing from a theoretical promise into a practical technology. Interns will work on developing new quantum algorithms and classical simulation techniques, improving methods for circuit decomposition and distributed quantum error correction, and building and extending software for quantum compilation, simulation, and hybrid high-performance and quantum computing workflows. This work includes contributing to open-source projects, shaping emerging standards and interfaces, and demonstrating our technologies through real applications.
We expect all our researchers (including interns and post-docs) to provide thought leadership and technical influence both internally and externally to HPE, as well as take innovative ideas and make them real - contributing along the full range from initial novel ideas to design, development, implementation, evaluation, and technology transfer. The ideal candidate can thrive in an applied research environment, balancing significant technical and scientific contributions with the ability to bring such contributions to practice through innovative solutions that address the needs of our customers and partners. We expect the successful candidate to collaborate with HPE Labs research teams as well as with external partners, and to work in alignment with HPE's broader innovation community.
You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, researchers, and product managers. Together, our goal is to build usable, efficient, and innovative systems that combine quantum computing and high-performance computing. Join us to be a part of a team that shapes the future of quantum computing!
Role and Responsibilities
Focused on either quantum algorithms or quantum software (we have two separate positions).
Quantum Algorithms Research
  • Quantum algorithms based on tensor networks for simulating 1D and 2D quantum many-body systems.
