Job description

Beacon Biosignals is on a mission to revolutionize precision medicine for the brain. We are the leading at-home EEG platform supporting clinical development of novel therapeutics for neurological, psychiatric, and sleep disorders. Our FDA 510(k)-cleared Waveband EEG headband and AI algorithms enable quantitative biomarker discovery and implementation. Beacon's Clinico-EEG database contains EEG data from nearly 100,000 patients, and our cloud-native analytics platform powers large-scale RWD/RWE retrospective and predictive studies. Beacon Biosignals is changing the way that patients are treated for any disorder that affects brain physiology.
Beacon Biosignals is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to join our Datastore team. The Datastore sits at the heart of Beacon's platform, defining our foundational data model and serving as the centralized repository and API for brain data collected from clinical studies and home sleep tests. As we expand our partnerships and real-world data integrations, we are looking for an engineer who thrives at the intersection of data platforms, customer needs, and applied problem solving.
In this role, you will work directly with Beacon's external partners to understand their technical use cases, guide integrations with our APIs and datasets, and develop integrated solutions that enable them to unlock value from Beacon's data platform. Internally, you will collaborate closely with Datastore engineers, product managers, and scientific teams to translate partner needs into robust data models, tools, and workflows, and to improve our ability to troubleshoot and resolve client issues at scale.
This role emphasizes deploying and extending Beacon's data platform in real-world contexts, rather than building core infrastructure from scratch. You will develop PoCs and production-ready code, build analyses and dashboards, and create integration tooling that helps partners succeed with Beacon's data.
Beacon's robust asynchronous work practices ensure a first-class remote work experience, but we also have in-person office hubs in Boston, New York City and Paris.
What success looks like:
  • You work directly with external partners and customers to understand their data needs, analytical workflows, and technical constraints, and translate those into concrete solutions built on Beacon's Datastore
  • You lead technical conversations with partner engineers and data teams, supporting API integrations, successful adoption of data access patterns and practices, and downstream analytics
  • You design and implement solutions for customers, sometimes on the Beacon platform and sometimes on the customer's platform, to kickstart and expedite integration and provide examples that showcase and validate Beacon's data
  • You collaborate with the rest of the Datastore team to develop internal tools, queries, and workflows that improve observability, troubleshooting, and resolution of client data issues
  • You leverage feedback from partners and internal stakeholders to improve documentation, APIs, data models, and operational processes
  • You are comfortable with ambiguity and balance pragmatism with rigor, delivering solutions quickly while maintaining high standards for data integrity, correctness, and maintainability

What you will bring:
  • 5+ years of experience developing and supporting data platform solutions (hands' on coding is required for this position)
  • 3+ years in a customer-facing role, developing and managing customer relationships
  • Strong proficiency in SQL, with hands-on experience designing and maintaining analytical or operational data models
  • Experience working directly with customers or external stakeholders to solve data-related problems, including requirements gathering, solution design, and delivery
  • Comfort operating across the stack-from querying and modeling data to writing application or integration code as needed
  • Proficiency in a data-oriented programming language such as Python, Julia, or R
  • Familiarity with APIs and data integration patterns (GraphQL or REST, batch exports and ELT/ETL, event sourcing, and the like)
  • Experience with modern analytics and BI tools such as Snowflake, Superset, Looker, or similar platforms
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences

The salary range for this role is $150,000 - 170,000. Salary ranges are determined using current market compensation data for this role and adjusted based on experience, skills, and location. The base salary is one component of the total compensation package, which includes equity, PTO and other benefits.
At Beacon, we've found that cultural and scientific impact is driven most by those that lead by example. As such, we're always seeking new contributors whose work demonstrates an avid curiosity, a bias towards simplicity, an eye for composability, a self-service mindset, and - most of all - a deep empathy towards colleagues, stakeholders, users, and patients. We believe a diverse team builds more robust systems and achieves higher impact.
