Job description

Amazon Leo is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will deliver low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Within the Optical Inter-Satellite Link (OISL) organization, you will directly contribute to the development and production of high-bandwidth free-space optical communication systems that connect satellites in orbit.
We are seeking a Lab Engineer II to join our multi-discipline team responsible for the assembly, integration, and test (AIT) of opto-mechanical and fiber optic systems for free-space optical communication. In this role, you will execute integration and qualification test workflows, maintain rigorous build standards, and collaborate with engineering teams to deliver flight-quality hardware.
Key job responsibilities
Execute the assembly, integration, and test of opto-mechanical and fiber optic devices, test stations, and supporting GSE to performance and workmanship standards.
Execute qualification test procedures for aerospace hardware, collecting data and tracking progress against test plans and success criteria.
Perform precision fiber optic splicing, termination, and characterization operations; validate quality through quantitative measurement.
Measure and characterize optical assemblies and laser systems, documenting results and flagging anomalies.
Maintain rigorous cleanliness standards and proper optical/fiber handling techniques throughout the build process.
Coordinate task execution within assigned workstreams, tracking progress and flagging schedule or resource risks.
Support the development and improvement of assembly and test procedures based on hands-on build experience.
Collaborate with engineering teams to resolve integration challenges and provide design-for-manufacturability feedback.
