Covia is looking for a dynamic Quality/Production Supervisor who will have a positive impact on the Operations team at its Portage. WI location.

The successful candidate will have the following Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide strong leadership in all of the Covia safety program policies and initiatives.
  • Assure that all safety and health, and environmental matters adhere to regulatory agency requirements and Covia policies.
  • Direct employees in mineral processing activities that include:
    • dredging, washing and tailings
    • drying, screening, loading
    • product shipment and inventory levels
    • bagging
  • Coordinate and direct the activities of the hourly employees to achieve plant key performance indicators, short and long-range production requirements, and quality control parameters. This includes scheduling of all regular production shifts and overtime as necessary.
  • Maintain acceptable labor and employee relations, provide positive and corrective feedback to hourly employees, administer employee handbook and Covia policy guidelines, and handle employee discipline matters while working closely with the Operations Manager and Plant Manager.
  • Review and recommend actions regarding the development and training of hourly employees to improve Plant operations.
  • Initiate corrective actions when required to maintain and improve Plant efficiencies.
  • Provide the Operations Manager with periodic updates of any problems or potential problems that would affect the ability of the Plant to produce in a safe, timely, and efficient manner including, but not limited to, personnel, equipment, transportation, quality, and raw materials.
  • Collect, check, and forward the necessary labor and operating data for submission of required reports.
  • Utilize the ERP system for purchase requisitions, maintenance work orders, and production records.
  • Assist in the development and construction of capital improvement projects and engineering changes to ensure that they fulfill Plant needs and meet long-term maintenance requirements.
  • Ensure that Plant work standards, policies, procedures and plans are maintained at the highest levels.
  • Monitor plant-specific quality control policies and procedures for adequacy and effectiveness. Direct plant-specific testing activities used to control product and shipment quality.
    • Must be thoroughly familiar will all Plant and Corporate Lab procedures
    • Must be thoroughly familiar with the specifications for all grades.
  • Maintain customer specification files to ensure correct and current requirements are documented. Must be thoroughly familiar with loadout specifications as required by individual customers. Manage specifications to ensure compliance with customer requirements.
  • Perform XRF chemical analyses as determined by customer requirements.
  • Prepare quality charts and statistical analyses as needed to meet plant, corporate, and customer requirements.
  • Perform investigations and root cause analysis on customer complaints, when applicable.
  • Prepare routine product samples for analysis at CASL. Prepare and process sample requests as required.
  • Direct all aspects of the Quality Control Program. Assure plant and corporate quality programs are in effect. Act as the Manual Coordinator for the Plant QC manual.
  • Serve as a member of the plant's Steering Team and prepare the annual Process Risk Assessment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or as judgment or necessity dictates.

The successful candidate will have the following Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in Engineering preferred, but not required
  • Three (3) years of prior supervisory experience in a mining or industrial environment is preferred
  • Working knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS) and/or ISO 9000 standards
  • Basic understanding of mathematics, statistical analysis, and particle size distributions
  • Desire to take a "hands-on" approach throughout the Plant to direct the mineral processes and partake in troubleshooting and maintenance activities

Capability to utilize MSWord, MSExcel, ERP, and other business software programs
