What does a quality manager do?
As a quality manager, your job is to oversee Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) for each product or service assigned to you. Your duties include guaranteeing products and services meet the standards of your organization, keeping management aware of any problems with production, and ensuring that the manufacturing process goes as smoothly as possible. This job has different aspects depending on where a product or service is in the development cycle. Products that are still being designed need QA to make creation as smooth as possible, while released products require QC to ensure the expected level of quality is maintained.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a quality manager, and why are they important?
What is the difference between Quality Manager vs Quality Supervisor?
| Aspect | Quality Manager |
|---|
| Required Credentials | Typically requires a bachelor's degree in quality assurance, engineering, or related field; certifications like ASQ CQE or Six Sigma are common. |
|---|---|
| Work Environment | Oversees multiple teams or departments, strategic planning, and process improvement initiatives. |
| Employer & Industry Usage | Used across manufacturing, healthcare, and service industries to lead quality programs. |
| Common Search & Comparison | Often compared with Quality Supervisor due to overlapping responsibilities and career progression. |
The main difference between a Quality Manager and a Quality Supervisor lies in their scope and responsibilities. A Quality Manager focuses on strategic quality initiatives, process improvements, and managing teams at a higher level, often requiring advanced certifications. In contrast, a Quality Supervisor typically oversees daily operations, supervises staff directly, and implements quality procedures. Both roles are essential in maintaining quality standards, but the manager role involves broader planning and leadership functions.

Here, you can build momentum that reaches beyond our business, develop skills for the future, and take ownership of your career with support at every stage. Join a firm where your career can make a difference.
We are looking for an HR Governance & Quality Manager to support Audit & Assurance HR with meeting its responsibilities under the Firm's System of Quality Management (SoQM). Working closely with HR leaders, the HR SoQM Office, and the Firm SoQM Quality Team, you'll help improve business processes, strengthen quality management practices, and develop practical tools and guidance that help HR teams meet their quality management responsibilities.
This is an opportunity for someone with experience in audit, governance, internal controls, or quality management who enjoys improving the way organizations work. You'll use your technical knowledge in a collaborative role where you'll help turn quality management requirements into practical processes, tools, and guidance that support HR's day-to-day work.
What you will do
- Plan, coordinate, and monitor Audit HR's annual quality management activities and workplan.
- Work with HR leaders, the HR SoQM office and the design & implementation team in recurring activities such as process narrative reviews, documentation updates, and control operation planning.
- Support risk assessment and scoping as part of control design and implementation to ensure controls are focused on the right quality risks and business processes.
- Through cross-functional collaboration, contribute to the development and continuous improvement of internal processes, control design, policies, and procedures.
- Collaborate with the HR SoQM office to develop practical guidance, learning resources, and tools that help HR stakeholders understand and carry out their quality management responsibilities.
- Support recurring governance, reporting, and operational activities that enable Audit HR's quality management program, including the SoQM KPI program, quarterly exit interview reporting and GPS Action Plan updates.
- Monitor and track the implementation of recommendations, ensuring timely and appropriate remediation actions are taken.
- Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, automate and improve quality management practices.
What you bring to the role
- CPA, CIA, CRMA, CISA, or a similar professional designation, with relevant experience.
- Experience in audit, governance, internal controls, quality management, compliance, or process improvement, preferably in a professional services environment.
- Experience reviewing, documenting, or improving business processes.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts in a practical and straightforward way.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships across teams and influence outcomes without formal authority.
- Strong Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint; experience with Power BI is a strong asset.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
