Job description

The Quality Manager is responsible for overall leadership and management of the company’s Quality organization. The Quality Manager must work effectively cross-functionally with the Operations, Purchasing, Sales, IT, and Technical Design Teams to define and achieve the quality standards required by the customer. This role encompasses responsibility for all 3 HMI Glass Manufacturing Locations (Louisville KY, Whitinsville MA, and Arlington TX.) The role will lead the development of robust, fact based, product and customer specific strategies and tactics that result in quality assurance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-Day Leadership of the Quality function.
  • Lead the development of the HMI Quality Management System including preparing schedule and resources required to achieve.
  • Manages the Quality staff; this staff is responsible for the overall quality system implementation and monitoring of required systems; and activities include proposal review; contract review; quality planning; document control; warranty administration; auditing; corrective actions; customer complaint processing; and continuous improvement.
  • Monitors the Quality function within each site and assist the site operations leaders in developing the required staff within that organization to support the agreed requirements.
  • Provide Technical Leadership to improve the Manufacturing Processes.
  • Develop the Quality Team including developing skills enhancement programs.
  • Support the implementation of Key Quality Tools such as Structured Problem-Solving and Corrective Action Responses.
  • Provide leadership and expertise to develop Operational Excellence SQDCP Initiatives and lead the Continuous Improvement Program for HMI Glass.
  • Lead KPI Improvement – Affect Internal PPM (scrap) reduction, external PPM (customer rejection) reduction and On-Time Delivery improvements both internally and at our suppliers; report PPM (KPI) data and Action Plans (countermeasures), when targeted objectives are not achieved.
  • Lead responsibility for Field Quality Customer Quality issue response and development & implementation of Corrective Actions.
  • Lead & coordinate all 3rd party and Customer Quality-related audits.
  • Oversee the follow up on all warranty claims.


Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proven skill of developing world class quality systems and applying continuous improvement to the quality system.
  • Thorough understanding of accredited quality systems & regulations (ISO, TS) as well as Lean Principles.
  • Implementation and management of quality systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to both promote and foster a Continuous Improvement culture both internally and at HMI suppliers.
  • Ability to talk to and influence all levels of the HMI Organization, Customers, and Suppliers.
  • A confident communicator who can influence without direct authority.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline
  • Minimum 5+ years in Quality in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in cosmetically sensitive products
  • DMAIC, PDCA, 5 Why’s, Fishbone etc.
  • Proficient use of quality software such as Minitab or other statistical based programs
  • Experience leading multi-site teams and programs
