About Brooks Utility Products

Brooks Utility Products is one of America’s oldest electric utility manufacturers, uniting E.J. Brooks & Company, Meter Devices Company, and Ekstrom Industries into the industry’s most comprehensive portfolio — all engineered around utility safety, security, and productivity.

The industry is entering a generational build cycle. Grid hardening, an accelerating AMI upgrade wave, and unprecedented load growth from data centers, electrification, and reshored manufacturing are driving demand straight through our core product lines — while rising energy theft and tightening grid-security mandates put our sealing and locking equipment front and center. This is the electric super cycle, and Brooks sits at the heart of it.

Position Summary

Brooks Utility Products is seeking a highly motivated Quality Engineer to play a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of quality across our manufacturing operations. Reporting to the Quality Manager, this position works cross-functionally with production, engineering, customer service, supply chain, and customers to implement and sustain robust quality systems that align with ISO 9001 requirements and utility industry standards. The Quality Engineer is a key driver of continuous improvement, product reliability, and customer satisfaction.

Quality System Management

  • Maintain and control quality documentation including procedures, work instructions, and forms
  • Manage the nonconformance (NCR) system, ensuring timely disposition, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive action closure.

Process Improvement & Engineering

  • Analyze manufacturing processes to identify quality gaps and drive effective, sustainable solutions.
  • Apply Statistical Process Control (SPC), FMEA, control plans, and measurement system analysis (MSA/Gauge R&R) to monitor and improve process capability.
  • Utilize lean manufacturing and Six Sigma tools to reduce waste, defects, and process variation.

Product Quality Assurance

  • Establish and maintain product quality standards, inspection criteria, sampling plans, and test procedures in line with customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead root cause analysis (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone/Ishikawa) for product non-conformances and customer complaints; implement and verify effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Oversee incoming, in-process, and final inspection activities to ensure product conformance.
  • Manage calibration and maintenance of inspection, measurement, and test equipment (IMTE).

Training & Development

  • Develop and deliver quality training for production associates, inspectors, and cross-functional team members on standards, procedures, and inspection methods.
  • Coach and mentor quality inspectors on standardized inspection processes, gauging techniques, and documentation practices.
  • Facilitate training on problem-solving methodologies (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone) for quality and production teams.
  • Foster a culture of quality ownership, continuous improvement, and accountability across the organization.
  • Develop, maintain, and control training materials and training records in compliance with QMS requirements.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, or related field) or equivalent technical experience.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of quality engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management system requirements.
  • Proficiency with quality tools: SPC, FMEA, Control Plans, MSA/Gauge R&R, 8D, 5-Why, and Fishbone analysis.
  • Experience leading root cause analysis and driving corrective/preventive actions to closure.
  • Strong technical writing skills; ability to develop clear procedures, work instructions, and reports.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with quality management software a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and move throughout the production floor.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs. may be required.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required in designated production areas.
