Job purpose

The Quality Engineer is responsible for performing order related quality activities and ensuring that requirements specified in customer purchase orders and UCI quality procedures are met.


Duties and responsibilities

Daily

  • Ensuring the assigned tasks are completed by the assigned due date 
  • Ensuring that the orders are planned and executed per customer purchase order requirements, UCI’s quality procedures and industry standards
  • Reviewing customer purchase orders and review order entry into UCI’s database
  • Planning all quality activities required to complete the assigned order
  • Approving purchase orders to procure items and services
  • Creating & approving dedication and qualification test procedures for electrical/mechanical/chemical/construction components and assemblies
  • Reviewing & approving test data and verifying if the results met established acceptance criteria and customer requirements
  • Creating, dispositioning, approving and closing non-conformance and deviation reports
  • Problem solving test failures, product and procedure related issues
  • Reviewing customer specifications, extracting required technical requirements and ensuring those requirements are met
  • Reviewing & approving vendor test reports
  • Performing required inspections 
  • Approving all order related documents
  • Reviewing customer specifications, extracting required quality requirements and ensuring those requirements are met
  • Reviewing customer requests for quotes and quoting based on UCI’s capabilities
  • Communicating with customers and vendors in requesting/providing quality details
  • Creating Certificate of Conformances 
  • Releasing items for shipment to customers/vendors or to be used in assembly process 
  • Problem solving order related quality issues
  • Communicating with internal staff in providing quality details and status updates on the tasks assigned
  • Submitting documents to customers/vendors and ensuring that the approvals are received when required
  • Uploading order related documents to electronic database once approved by quality
  • Reviewing audit and survey reports and creating quality plans
  • Reviewing calibration certificates and managing calibration database
  • Verifying all tests are performed using calibrated equipment

Periodic

  • Verifying that all the activities related to quality are properly executed by all personnel
  • Providing support in quality related activities to internal staff and customers
  • Reviewing and approving engineering, quality and project management documents as applicable
  • Verifying that the order-related activities are performed by qualified personnel
  • Verifying that the non-conformance items are tagged and segregated properly
  • Participating in internal and external audits and commercial grade surveys when required
  • Witnessing activities at subcontractor/customer facilities when required
  • Performing and reviewing 10CFR Part 21 evaluations
  • Assisting in creating lean processes related to quality
  • Assisting in training new employees and other personnel in quality functions
  • Participating in corrective/preventive action activities
  • Managing qualified suppliers list and performing supplier evaluations in a timely manner
  • Managing personnel training records and qualifications
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required
  • Knowledge or some experience in nuclear industry quality assurance program requirements 10CFR50 Appendix B, 10CFR21, ASME NQA-1 is preferred
  •  Strong communications skills: verbal, written and interpersonal
  • Understanding of electronic Database use and provide necessary input for current status and accurate information.
  • Ability to lift minimum of 25 lbs, bend over, walk, reach overhead, step on a small ladder. Pass a J1 eye test.
  • Travel required: up to 25% of the time
  • Be able to work in office, warehouse, laboratory and team environment
