Description:

Cates Control Systems in Plano, TX is looking to hire a Testing Technician. Joining the Cates team is both challenging and rewarding. You will become an important member of a very talented and dynamic team within our industry. If this sounds like you, please read on!


The Role

  • Pull-test all wires to verify a good connection.
  • Make sure that all wires are labeled correctly.
  • Make sure that all fuses are correct according to design standards.
  • Make sure that there are no wire frays.
  • Check all components to verify correct sizes and voltages.
  • Apply the required voltage and verify that all components operate correctly.
  • If the control panel requires UL approval, you must make sure all components meet UL requirements via schematic designer.
  • Apply all identification stickers and UL stickers to control panel(s).
  • Fill out all check sheets supplied with drawings for your department. Verify quality prior to hand off to shipping department.
  • Log all time spent on each job into the Epicor database using the traveler supplied with the drawings.

Education and Qualifications

  • This position requires a significant amount of bending and standing
  • Ability to read wiring schematic
  • AC-DC circuits: Needs a fundamental knowledge of AC-DC circuits and the difference between the two. This person needs to understand Kirchhoffโ€™s law and apply it to power and control circuits.
  • Ohms and Wattโ€™s Law: Needs to know how to calculate simple and advanced circuit calculations for industrial control panel needs.
  • NEC and UL508A: Needs to have the ability to look up and understand NEC and UL508A rules and apply them to industrial control panels. NEC and UL508A will also need to be used in electrical design of power and control circuits. Wiring sizing, component selection, and component uses are also required.
  • PLC: Needs to understand PLC hardware basics and understand basic PLC ladder logic.
  • Motor Controls and Automation: Needs to understand advanced motor controls and automation systems. Troubleshooting improperly working circuits is required. A firm understanding about closed loop control and individual components in that loop is also needed. Process controller programming and setup is also required. Must be able to read sequence of operations for timers and counters and apply them to control panels.
  • AC and DC drives: Needs a fundamental knowledge of AC and DC drives. Basic and advanced setup of various drives is required.
  • Motors: Needs to understand how different AC, DC and servo motors work.
  • Transformers: Needs to understand how to make connections for various application needs.
  • Multi-meter use: Needs to understand how to use a digital multi-meter to make various electrical readings.
  • Basic computer skills
