Job Description

The Microbiology Technician, under the direction of the Quality Assurance Management team, provides support to the factory in microbiological analysis of finished product, utilities and raw materials for the positive release of materials meeting specifications. The Microbiology Technician will be responsible  for monitoring production, quality data, sampling, testing and providing results to Quality team. The position requires in-dept knowledge of basic microbiology methods and technology. This position also requires effective communication skills to work with a variety of cross-functional customers.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Sampling, qualitative and quantitative microbiological examinations of data.
  • Prepares, reviews, and reports results of microbiological analyses; maintain and document records in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintenance of the environmental monitoring program including sampling, testing, data entry and reporting results.
  • Works with Quality, Product Development, and Food Safety teams to ensure integrity of micro data.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

  • Reports directly to the Quality Manager
Qualifications

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology, Food Science, or related technical field.
  • Undergraduate course work including microbiological analysis or equivalent work experience.

Skills

  • Effective communicator with training, facilitation, and supervisory skills.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Must be capable of working with minimal direct supervision and have strong prioritization, interpersonal and self-initiative skills.
  • Computer skills to include proficiency with the Microsoft Word and Excel required. Access, SAP and Statistical software experience is preferred.
  • Expertise in microbiological analysis.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends.

Safety and Environmental

Associate shall follow factory safety & environmental objectives & targets follow the plant safety rules, report incidents & unsafe conditions immediately, maintain compliance with regulations, and refer to the Safety & Environmental Management System(s) on all related procedures and programs. Understand the environmental aspects of the position, as indicated on the aspects and impacts sheets, and take action to reduce these environmental impacts by conserving paper, electricity, water etc. Will also recycle all appropriate materials (paper, plastic, food, etc.)

Quality

Associate shall follow factory food safety, quality objectives & targets follow Nestle Good Manufacturing Practices, report  food safety and quality issues immediately, maintain compliance with regulations and refer to Nestle Quality Management System on all related procedures and programs. Understand the food safety and quality aspects of the position as indicated on QMS, OJT'S and SOP'S that apply.
